from what I've been able to find... the fraternities have houses that area really gross, and when they have open parties, only freshmen attend.... lol. (obviously this was not an official source). I don't see anything about sorority houses. Per the university website, the roster #s for chapters range from 2-12.... but photos seem to indicate memberships between 4 and 20ish?
(the NPC groups refer to themselves on the university website as "one of the 4 national sororities on campus" so OP wasn't making up that odd phrasing either.)
although some of these other things seem to line up, I can only hope that the OP was mistaken regarding how recruitment actually functions though....

Interesting and thanks, sigmagirl. It is hard for me to get my head around any NPC group sustaining a 4 person chapter unless it is on a highly desirable campus or is a very old chapter on its roster. I'm not doubting you, but what a strange system.

It seems as though the NPC groups are the on the larger side of those numbers I saw.... remember.... there are 11 groups considered "social sororities" but some are honorary, locals (one super different local/ not local one as well), multicultural. The 4 NPC groups are just lumped in with the other 7.

The timing of my posts is bad! Apologies! The small houses explanation makes sense. I am still curious about four tiny chapters and tiny recruitment.

Okay, thanks. I thought the range was for the NPC groups. This makes much more sense. There must be some form of unstructured recruitment if "formal" yields so few women.

What seems odd is that it appears to be almost completely in the hands of the PNM as to which chapters to continue to visit. And then at the end, the organization can decide whether to issue the bid....but they don't decide if someone comes back to attend a party in the second round? Or are all the rounds open until bids are distributed? And there are two concurrently running recruitment processes, one formal and one COB? For the love of all that's holy, someone 'splain this! (and tell where it is)

There are some schools where rush is a cluster and where they do other stupid things, like thinking it's appropriate for a member of a co-ed service fraternity to be the president of IFC and govern social fraternities (whose membership selection rules are nothing like theirs). My guess is that it is one of these.
And yeah, that's pretty much how the houses on my campus were. The chapters were 50-70 people, but the houses only held 10-14. They were made-over family houses, varying sizes of bedrooms, etc. To most of us, living in the large sorority houses with adults supervising would be kind of like living in a dorm and the whole point was to get OUT of the dorm.

I can't find ANYTHING about their actual recruitment at all. I don't see dates, structure, info for PNMs, nothing......
I could just be a not so savvy GC sleuth....

I normally love recruitment stories. This year hurts my brain.

On campuses where there are old, strong recruiting locals, along with newer nationals and service orgs that are functioning as socials, and they are all folded into the same council and sharing the same recruiting structure/s....it can be a strange world, far removed from the organized and fairly straightforward systems many of us experienced. I think the OP is describing the chaos she experienced.

Thank you KatMandu! You are 100% correct. I was trying to describe the chaos as best as I could but I ended up confusing and frustrating people more.

Jess, it's a new day. Here is your next task. Take a writing class. Learn to edit your thoughts into cohesive sentences and paragraphs. Don't hit send after you've just put down a stream of consciousness. That only worked for Faulkner. Be straightforward in your communication. That'd be a great start!
And back away from GC for a while, since you're finished with whatever it is you tried to describe. Put a period at the end of the sentence, this chapter is finished.

Jess, this is the best possible advice you could receive written in the nicest possible way. Please take it to heart, and remember the way that you communicate-- written or otherwise, is what you present to the world and will affect the way the world perceives your intelligence and abilities. In other words, it does matter. Good luck in your future endeavors.
