As a matter of fact, I did just learn that I couldn't get into another one. There was a pre-rush event and even right before. I was told that I would have to wait a full calender year before I could rush again. That's what I was told. And the chapter definitely didn't say anything about it. That's why I was looking it up and asking if it was possible.
I'm surprised that some of you are jumping to such conclusions about me when you know almost nothing about the situation or me. Way to be REAL mature. Well, thanks for being real helpful. Not.

Did you tell these people that you had actually initiated?

Can someone post me an iron?
The people who told you that at the meeting must not have realized that you had been initiated.
But now you know, so our work here is done.
Good luck with your future endeavors.
If you'd like to post your old chapter, I'm sure we could make sure they got better instruction about what to tell new members and women who are resigning from the group.

I figure it would help someone understand my situation better so maybe they could help me. I was exteremly commited to my chapter until they let ME down.
And I wanted to get into another NPC sorority that would do something. However, now that I'm being told it's not possible, I just get into hopeful one or two service sororities.
|
I colored that last sentence for posterity.
I sure hope that it's not my sorority, because membership is not for those who are disgruntled by a social sorority who they pledged AND INITIATED INTO, and who waited until after taking her oaths to follow the ideals and missions set before her to decide it's not good enough for her.
Gamma Sigma Sigma is a place for those who wish to promise and uphold the ideals of friendship, service and equality. Our sisterhood is founded upon the mission of SERVICE TO HUMANITY.
In this vein, to paraphrase JFK, ask not what your sorority can do for you, but what you can do for your sorority. You have proven that you didn't want to give back because it wasn't giving you what you had expected or wanted.
Just because our membership is open to anyone who fulfills the requirements does not mean that everyone who starts out pledging (Membership in Training) will get initiated. The training period is time where you demonstrate your commitment to service on campus, in the community, and your fellow man/woman. In other words, you have to put the work in to become a member.
If anyone finds this reply defensive, I only mean it out of respect as to why Gamma Sigma Sigma exists and thrives today. It's only because too many people take for granted Gamma Sig's existence. In fact, those who enter membership with intentions such as the OP stated, probably won't make it far enough to become a member. We aren't for people who didn't find a fit in a social or other sorority. We have a unique purpose for which we are sought out.
I might add that several of our founders also belonged to social (NPC) sororities, and that dual membership is nothing to be frowned upon. The more, the merrier. But only if your heart is in it.

I was actually talking about before I even got into a sorority. They never told us from the beginning.

GUESS WHAT I DID TO CHANGE IT. I got on Exec, nominated a sister for a province award, nominated my chapter for two awards from the university, helped plan an inter-greek formal, pushed for inter-greek socials, made sure every sister had a copy of the yearbook directory, submitted a excerpt for each issue of Tempo!, helped plan and participated in numerous service projects, and planned and coordinated our first chapter composite since 2005, and that was all in one year.
My chapter maintained our affiliation with the university for the first full year since we were chartered. And, we won that award from the university--"Overall Excellence in Community Service". We beat out 3 D9s, two NPCs, and a few other well established campus orgs.
Being greek isn't about what the chapter can do for you. It's about what you can do to change the chapter and make it better.

I just thought this was awesome and deserved quoting. And some kudos!

Hey! Thanks guys! My and my lil were just talking today about how our chapter was on the brink of greatness. We have come so far this year and it's not just because of me. Other people put in hours too.
It was hard work. But, it has been so worth it just to see my chapter improve and gain the reputation we have today!

Did you join in Fall 2007 or Spring 2008?

If she's on a quarter system, Winter 08 would have been from January to March/April of this year.

thanks for the info...
so let's pretend she is on the quarter system and joined between January & March/April of 2008... if she is already looking into Kappa after a couple of months, I'm still not feeling sympathy that she can't join another NPC.
The new member period I think varies between 4-8 wks depending on the NPC, so if they had rush the second week of January, then was a new member around 2 months after that, it means her NM period ended around the first week of March and was an "active" member for about 8 weeks before inquiring about the other org.

If her chapter ran the way mine did, then she wasn't even an 'active' mber for that long. Our NM program is 6 weeks and ran up until almost Spring Break (which was the last week of March). So she had the weeks of April and what a week in May?
I totally agree with you, I have NO sympathy for her. Especially after considering the short amount of time she was a 'member.'

Well, lucky for me, my active membership didn't run like that. It was actually in February that I became an active member but whatever. I didn't come here looking for your sympathy, I just came here to ask a question. Thanks to those who provided me with helpful answers to my questions.
