I preffed Pi Phi and Sig Kap. I had LOVED us all through recruitment, but when it came to pref night, I had actually really enjoyed Pi Phi's pref. I was pretty torn, but I went with my gut and put SK as my number one.
I was so happy when I got my bid, and it turned out that my Rho Gamma was a Sigma Kappa as well.

I preffed at Phi Mu and Sigma Kappa.
It was prefs that decided it for me.
I had made a really close friend during rush, and we both preffed these two. She ran up toask me and said to me "Tomorrow, we could be sisteres!" After Prefs I knew which house was for me, so I ranked SK as my number one. Sadly, she did the opposite - but she's still one of my amazingly close friends! We trade costumes for socials sometimes!
I'm so glad I kept with pledging, even though my enigneering program is demanding - I even found 4 sisters in my major!!

I preffed at AEPhi, Delta Zeta, and Sigma Kappa.
It was a hard day for me... I had 7 friends in AEPhi (all of whom had rushed me at some point during recruitment!!) but wasn't really feeling their vibe. I had loved SigKap the entire recruitment week, but was completely blown away by Delta Zeta's pref party (I even cried!). I debated whether to rank DZ or SigKap first... something told me SigKap was for me and now I couldn't be happier

I dropped out the round before pref. I was a sophomore with a 3.0. I had three chapters going into 4 party: Sigma Kappa, Alpha Xi Delta, and Pi Beta Phi. I didn't care for SK, even though I had two good friends in the chapter and loved them dearly. I just didn't feel like I fit in with enough of the actives. I didn't care for Pi Phi which was one of the top chapters on campus, again I had two good friends one with an older sister there. Again, I didn't feel like I fit in with the actives. I loved, loved, loved Alpha Xi Delta. However, the were brand new and that year was their very first formal recruitment. They were housed in a dorm that was quite old, it had been built as temporary housing after WWII for soldiers using the GI bill to go to school. They even looked like barracks, they were two floors of single rooms. My Dad had gone to my school in the late 60's and said the dorm was nasty then so there was NO way he was going to pay for me to join that chapter. I was really upset and dropped.
Later in the spring 7 chapters out of 20 went through COB. I really was hoping to get a call from AEPhi. The call never came, but the last week of COB I got two phone calls. One from SK. I went to lunch there and was hosted by one of my friends, she made sure to introduce me to people in the chapter she thought i would like. Had I met these girls, I probably would not have dropped out. They gave me a bid that day, but I said I needed to think about it. Then that evening Pi Phi called. They had three girls drop and wanted to fill the spots without anyone knowing and invited me to bid dinner and told me to bring a white dress. Before I even knew what I was saying I told them I had accepted a bid to SK. I got off the phone and called SK to tell them I accepted. :-) Sometimes things do work out how they're supposed to. I was put in the recruitment committee right after initiation, I had found my strength. If anyone had told me when I left for college that I would pledge any sorority, I would have laughed at them. As so many others have said, I would trade my sisters or my experience for anything.

I preffed Sigma Kappa and Alpha Gamma Delta.
I liked both houses, but Sigma Kappa had been at the top of my list since Round One, and their pref party was just more "me".
So I put Sigma Kappa first, and because of my thoughtless roommate who dropped right before prefs, I learned around 6AM the morning of Bid Day that neither house made quota and both were snap bidding. So I knew several hours before we got our bids I'd be a Sigma Kappa.
Which was great news, though it took the surprise out of it.
I have lots of AGD friends, but I'm glad I ended up with the sisters I wanted!

SK got back to me straightaway, and actually delivered my bid to the Greek life office before we went out and got coffee. They REALLY wanted me apparently. I got that bid in time for bid night which was awesome!
At least now I know for sure I ended up in the right house. None of the other chapters would have fit me.

Wait a sec.... I am totally that ∑K alum who was being appeased. I'm amused to find a post about me what.... 8 years later? (her post wasn't from when she went through). Hmm. I don't recall the intricacies of bids being at greek life for informal, but could have been.
Very amused.

I didn't really intend on going through formal recruitment and I really didn't know a damn thing about it when I went. I missed the second day (house tours) because I had to be home for something (that I can't even remember). I don't dress girly ... I showed up to most of the days in jeans and a tshirt (which I'm sure made a lot of chapters dislike me). So ... I was only asked back to Sigma Kappa for pref, but I loved it there.
Our ABC tells me she remember when I preffed and says she was almost positive I wasn't going to come back ... guess when I observe too hard I look disinterested ... oops.
:shrugs: So in the end I ended up in a sorority ... and I love rocking my lavender and maroon letters

....I can totally picture this - including our ABC saying this. I'm glad we ended up there together, pledge sis! Your knowledge and networking got me active in the chapter as well as my advising now.
(yet another response to a 3+ year old post)
