Hmm, lets see, no.
I just thought I would give the perspective of a pledge...
I am going to be going through rush in less than a month, and I would never, I repeat NEVER let MTV follow me around. To me, that would just be anouncing to all the houses that you are interested in nothing but partying and drama, since that is obviously what MTV looks for. I doubt many sororities want to give a bid to a drunken dramaqueen. Secondly, if I was in a rush group with a girl who was being followed around by MTV, I would try to stay as far away as possible. From watching sorority life, I cannot see one good thing that could possibly come from it. And third, even if MTV did find a rushee dumb enough to let them follow her, none of the houses would let the camera people inside for any events. I doubt a show full of "Well, we just did this, and you couldn't see it, and I'm not allowed to talk about it, but it was fun" would make for very good ratings anyways.
And here's another question: why won't the mtvresearcher respond to any of these things?

Delt Alum-stated perfectly!
I was wondering if ayone has heard from the girl in that sorority.
I thought she had posted a couple of times. I'd be very interested to know how they are feeling and what ramificatons it has caused them.
Ditto on PBS Greek documentary-they would open it with ancient rituals of manhood on prepubescent males and trace it to initiation somehow!

James, et al,
My basic problems with shows like "Sorority Life" are in their production techniques and values. They will only show the "drama" (which seems to be the buzz word of the hour). That's a fact. Philanthrophy doesn't "sell." Is anyone really taken aback by Cara'(?) "revelation" about how much sex was shown on Real World as opposed to what really happened? If so, I have some Arizona Swampland I'd like to sell you.
That's why I railed against this concept from it's very beginning. With all due respect, Sorority Life is NOT what Greek Life is about. Neither is talking about philanthrophy all by itself. Showing any part of the experience exclusively is way off the mark.
On the other hand, why is there such amazament that MTV is only out for ratings? Of course they are. And how about "Dateline" and Oprah and the others? Guess what? They're out for ratings, too. They may follow a different path to get them, but in the long run, that's what TV is about -- ratings and profit.
MTV is not your friend. It's a business.
As for those who would like PBS to do a documentary -- be careful of what you wish for. While PBS would undoubtedly talk about the philanthrophy, they would also cover the parties, underage drinking, etc. That's why they call the form documentary -- it documents -- and on PBS it would document everything. Bad and good. Even PBS gets ratings.
Did SAEPi get an even break and the unvarnished truth from MTV? Nope. Will anyone else? Nope.
And the idea of a different show on MTV doing a sorority doc with different results? Not likely. The chance that ANY organization would give final approval for air to NPC? Ain't gonna happen. That's prior restraint and censorship.
Is your chapter so "squeaky clean" that you would open yourselves to the scrutiny of the TV cameras?
Are you sure?

Probably right! A few of us said pretty much the same thing a year and a half or so ago. Didn't help much.

I agree
I agree somewhat with James I think alot of people really dont like to expose the skeletons in their orgs closet, and thats understandable, but if you are going to present the good you have to show some of the bad. I dont talk about a couple of things that go on in my chapter, and I would never be interested in having MTV cameras follow my chapter for any period of time, mainly because we would all be thrown in jail, or have lawsuits pending......But I think if you are going to present Greeks to the TV watching public it would be better to have us on the history channel rather than MTV.....cause maybe then yall would fiind out the truth about your orgs.....ie what sorority Courtney Cox, Sheryl Crow, and Barbara Walters where in, and also that non of your orgs have badges on the moom.......hahahaha

Actually, she did do a show a few years ago. The show focused on hazing/pledging and incidents of.
Montell Williams had a show about Greeks years ago too (like 92ish,93ish).
