I am fairly certain I know what school this is. You'll definitely want to tone it down a little (maybe with the little stud as opposed to a big obvious hoop).

Never suppress Y-town jokes. Unless, of course, you owe money to the wrong people.

I am trying to think of libral arts schools that small in ohio. kenyon, oberlin, otterbein (local GLOs), capital (local GLOs), Antioch (facial piercing would have been no big deal here, but i dont think Antioch has undergrad programs anymore, i think that portion of the college has closed), marietta (has 3 NPC GLOs), muskingum...oh, and denison, heidelburg, wilmington and the rest of the OAC.
i dont know much about some of those schools... but the rest... i would still tone it down. like the majority has said about not wearing one for a job interview, i agree. i would take out both. but if you want to keep one, maybe keep the nose ring. you want people to focus on what you have to say, and not be distracted by the metal in your face. and it WOULD be a distraction. first impressions are very important!
seems like marietta is the best fit. since I went to a comparable OAC school... i still say take them out for recruitment.

Personally, I think your piercings shout out "desperately insecure trendster." As long as you have holes in your face, people will make assumptions about you. To compare your decision to mutilate your body to someone's ethnicity or anything else they were born with is pathetic.
Of course you'll be the first one running here to complain when your oh-so-unique self doesn't get a bid.

I can only think of a couple off the top of my head, but women who are Alaska Native/First Nations from the Inside Passage of Alaska down to even the groups of Northwest Washington may have facial piercings as a sign of ethnic or tribal identity. Same for women with Indian/Hindu backgrounds with noes piercings, but they may or may not be rushing at schools where people are more familiar with that as a cultural marker.
Whether those women are actively pursuing NPC sorority membership at more conservative schools is unknown, but those chapters and schools where they are joining are likely more in tune with those piercings.
OT, but I sat behind a guy who had neck piercings, and yeah, I can't imagine getting that caught on my clothing, OUCH.

It's pretty easy to tell the difference between someone with a cultural marker rather than some wanna be hipster screaming out "Ain't I kewl? I'm a modern primitive!" People are going to judge you for anything you do to your body. Some things elicit stronger responses. The blonde and fat thing can be changed with human intervention, but again those are also genetic situations. As far as I know, no one is born with lip and nose piercings.
What it comes down to is if the piercings are going to get in the way of you achieving the things you really and truly want in life, then they really aren't you or worth it. It's like when people get their faces and hands tattooed. They're basically saying "I'm ok with being marginally employed for the rest of my life."

Example: My brother who is home from college on summer break started his internship yesterday. He wanted this internship very badly and its a huge deal. However, the company has a policy that his tatoos have to be covered, (he has one on his forearm, one on his upper arm and one on his calf) because he will be working with the public.
Now because of his tatoos, he will be forced to wear long sleeved shirts and pants all summer outside.
He got all of his tatoos while in college because he thought he was cool. Now that he is faced with the real world, he realizes that they aren't so cool after all.
Sometimes you have to conform to others restrictions obtain your goals. It may not be fair, but thats life.

Tell him to shave his body hair (lots of guys are doing it nowadays) and buy Dermablend. Either that or put bandages on them. It's more comfortable than long sleeved shirts and pants.

I have a hard time understanding that as well, I mean, my ears are pierced, but they aren't part of my identity.

I completely understand what you guys are saying about how it could possibly be a part of me, etc and it is a little confusing to explain why I think that and where I am coming from..
Also, let me say that I come from a Big Ten school but I was born and raised in the South but moved north for college..I realize that my lip stud at southern schools wouldn't fly, most likely. Up here, it is more liberal and the culture is certainly different than at southern schools.
Anyway, I feel like my lip stud is part of my identity because people associate it as being something that I have..all of my friends in college have only ever seen me with my lip stud. It isn't a large jeweled or gauged piercing, but it is part of my face at this point. For me, it would be like someone having a mole on their face (hell0, enrique!) and then one day it being gone because they got it removed..people would wonder where it went. People would do the same for me with my lip. It doesn't draw their attention anymore because it has just become a 'part' of me in that sense..of course people who first meet me may notice and focus on it until it becomes normal for them to see me with it too. Does that make sense? Its really hard to explain!
I also feel that ear piercings and lip studs/etc are two very different things because it is socially acceptable to have your ears pierced and it is often something people look forward to as a milestone in their or their daughters life..getting their ears pierced. It would be something like in India with nose piercings. It wouldn't be something you identify yourself with because it is basically something most people do in the culture and it doesn't typically make you stand out..in fact I would almost say that NOT having your ears pierced as an adult woman makes you stand out more than having them done...lip studs do and are definitely not as accepted (depending on your region, etc)

I'm also from a Big Ten school as well. Piercings are way more common among sorority women here, but I still would suggest you remove them for recruitment or go with a very small stud. The two women I know with piercings did that and it worked out well for them.
Anyways, as kddani said, you don't want to distract the women you speak to with your nose/lip ring.

Agreed. They can be very distracting! I remember talking to a a PNM last year who had GIANT earrings on (very dangly and sparkly) and I was so distracted I hardly remembered the conversation. Bottom line is, take them out. If you get a bid, put them back in. Your new sisters are not going to be like OMG NEW MEMBER NANCY HAS A PIERCING DEPLEDGE IMMEDIATELY. Especially with the campus culture you described.
