Thank you to Benzgirl...

... for posting the link for the service for Soror Tubbs- Jones. I watched and cried for all of her family and friends who will miss her tremedously! What a remarkable person she was. Soror Tubbs-Jones spoke at the Social Action Luncheon at the Midwest Regional Conference in Milwaukee in 2007. She will be missed!!!

Soror Marcia Fudge is running for Soror Tubbs Jones' Congressional seat

Sorors,

I just received an email saying that Past National President Marcia Fudge is running for Soror Tubbs Jones' seat. Soror Fudge was once Soror Tubbs Jones chief-of-staff.

Warrensville Heights Mayor To Run For Tubbs Jones' Seat

Marcia Fudge Announces Candidacy

WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia L. Fudge is throwing her hat into the ring to replace U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones in congress.

Tubbs Jones, a Democrat who was the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, died last month after suffering a brain hemorrhage caused by a ruptured aneurysm.

Fudge released the following statement on Monday:

"On Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, our community joined together to celebrate the life of my dear friend Stephanie Tubbs Jones. It was the spirit of unity, sincere outpouring of love and the prayers of many that have led me to declare my candidacy for the seat vacated by Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones. I wish to continue her work and build on her legacy of kindness, good deeds, and zealous representation of all people of the 11th Congressional District of Ohio.

"It is my hope that the leadership of this community will develop a process of identifying a consensus candidate so that we may move forward together. It would be an honor and privilege to represent the 11th Congressional District of the State of Ohio."

The ballot replacement for Tubbs Jones will be selected by members of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party's executive committee who live in the 11th district.

Tubbs Jones' term expires at the end of December. A replacement likely will not be elected until November.

I live in Ohio, but can't vote for her. I'm in District 13. Stephanie's district is 11.
I'm in the "interesting district" as all political commentators refer to it. Thank you Republicans for drawing arbitrary lines.

Ladygreek, I am west of Cleveland in Lorain county.

Congratulations to Marcia Fudge,
http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008...o_prevail.html

Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia Fudge took another step Tuesday night toward succeeding her mentor, the late Stephanie Tubbs Jones, in representing the 11th Congressional District.
Fudge won a special primary to fill the remainder of Tubbs Jones' two-year term, which is over at the end of the year.
Fudge won 67 percent of the vote with all 645 precincts reporting. The next highest vote getter of the other nine candidates, Jeffrey Johnson, received 13 percent of the vote.

Yay Soror Fudge!! She still has to run for the 09-10 term on the 4th, as well as the general election to finish out the time left on the current term. She has a Facebook supporter page, so if you are on Facebook, please join!

It's a done deal - there is no real competition. Hasn't been for that position since Stephanie first ran.

Congratulations are in order...

Fudge wins handily; Kucinich, LaTourette defeat challengers
Wednesday, November 05, 2008
Sabrina Eaton
Plain Dealer Washington Bureau

Warrensville Heights Mayor Marcia Fudge was overwhelmingly selected to fill the eastern Cuyahoga County congressional seat left open by the sudden death in August of her friend Stephanie Tubbs Jones.

For Fudge, a Democrat who defeated Republican businessman Thomas Pekarek in the heavily Democratic 11th District, the victory was bittersweet because of the loss of Tubbs Jones. But "I know that she's smiling and happy," Fudge said as she celebrated Tuesday night at the Laborers Local 310 hall in Cleveland. "I want to make her proud and her legacy something that we'll never forget."

I am truly happy for Soror Fudge and for our nation. Now we must steadfastly support our elected officials even if things happen that we do not agree with!
