Our Fraternity President posted a message on the Kappa website asking all condolences to be sent to Fraternity Headquarters, probably to make sure the chapter doesn't get overwhelmed with condolences, albeit all well-meaning, while they're still struggling with the loss of a sister.

Very wise. If a memorial of any sort is set up, will you please let us know?

I just got this through a listserve and wanted to share with everyone. Please support us all in wearing maroon and orange on friday as well as wearing an orange ribbon to remember those who were lost on monday.

Hokie Hope / Hokie Nation

Hello all:

The Virginia Tech alumni are holding a Maroon and Orange Effect Day this Friday, April 20. We are asking everyone to wear our school colors in honor of the victims of Monday's shootings, and to show that hope can prevail after this tragedy. We hope that on Friday, the United States truly will become Hokie Nation.

In addition, the students have also started an Orange Ribbon campaign to honor those who have fallen. To join this campaign, all you have to do is make and wear an orange ribbon. Facebook groups have been started for both of these events.

Lastly, Virginia Tech has started the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund in support of those affected by this tragedy. Donations are accepted online or via mail. http://www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php

Please join us.

Thanks for the info. How are you holding up? And how is the Greek system doing after losing two members?

"April 18, 2007

On Monday, April 16, 2007, a terrible tragedy struck the Virginia Tech campus. We were saddened to learn that one of the confirmed deceased victims, Caitlin Hammaren, was an active member of the Zeta Mu Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Caitlin was a sophomore from Westtown, New York, majoring in International Studies and French.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Caitlin's family and friends, the members of Zeta Mu Chapter, families feeling the loss of their loved ones and the entire Virginia Tech community.

Zeta Mu has and continues to receive tremendous support from their advisers, Province and Regional Directors. The chapter held an emergency meeting this week to be with each other and to make chapter members aware of the support that is being provided on campus and within Kappa. The chapter members also attended the convocation ceremony and candlelight vigil on the Virginia Tech campus. Several advisers have been with the women and others have been in constant communication with the chapter members.

Many have reached out to members of Zeta Mu asking how they may send gifts or financial memorials. Zeta Mu Chapter encourages that in lieu of gifts to the chapter donations may be made to one of two foundations near and dear to their hearts:

The Virginia Tech Foundation and specifically the "Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund” in the name of Caitlin Hammaren (www.vt.edu/tragedy/memorial_fund.php)

The Kappa Kappa Gamma Foundation in the name of Caitlin Hammaren (www.kappa.org/donation)

Condolences to the women of Zeta Mu may be sent to:

Zeta Mu Chapter
c/o Kappa Kappa Gamma Headquarters
P.O. Box 38 Columbus, Ohio 43216-0038

Thank you all for your concern and outstanding support for Zeta Mu Chapter and Virginia Tech. Please keep those who lost their lives, those that have been injured and their grieving families in your thoughts and prayers."

is on the Kappa homepage. Thanks so much to everyone. I never met Caitlin, but a sister is a sister, and I know the support means a lot.
