That's a fairly broad statement, to say that liberal = no values.

what she meant to say was "I wish I lived in a Theocracy where we locked up or exterminated those who do not hold a strict viewpoint of the dominant religion"

Well damn, then, Cynthia. I guess you're the only one not going to Hell, since everybody else in your country is!

Canada is the home of socialized medicine.

In Canada, property taxes aren't used to pay for education, so students who live in poorer districts (often) have the same amount of money allocated to their school budgets as students who live in richer districts.

Canada has opened her doors to many citizens from all nations and for the most part, the different people have come together harmoniously.

Canada values the good of the many over the individual.

Canada has a lower divorce rate than the United States.

Yep, it seems like Canadians are just headed to hell on a rollerskate.

I'll say this for Taualumna, she managed to get me to do something I thought I'd never do: defend Rick Mercer in a public forum. Personally, I think he's a little snot, but I'm not leaving Canada just cause I don't find him funny.

Yeah, but it's to the point that SOME PEOPLE aren't even valuing Anglo-Canadian (or Franco-Canadian) values/traditions. The whole "I'm not allowed to do this because I'm fill-in-the-blank culture and not 'Canadian'" is really, really silly IMHO. And there's this whole BS about not being allowed to say "Merry Christmas" (ok, so Americans have the same problem too) or sing religious Christmas songs at winter concerts, yet, other religions are allowed to present theirs. I'm really, really glad I went to private school where some traditional ideals are still valued. If you're Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, Aethiest or from another Christian denomination, you still came to chapel every morning, whether you liked it or not. If you don't want to participate, then you do so silently. Stand when you're supposed to, sit when you're supposed to. There were non Christian girls who were in the chapel choir, non Christian girls who participated in the annual Nativity.....

I definitely don't claim to be an expert on Canadian political parties, but from what I know, the Liberal party values universal health care, free education for everyone, and helping the environment.

I'd be interested to hear how you think that these aren't traditional values.

Sismadly, it's not that he's not funny. It's because he's *whisper* GAY *whisper*!

It's this pompous idea that Christianity is THE ONLY WAY that I equate with close-mindedness.

The Liberal party wants to decriminalize pot. The Liberal government is pro-gay marriage. The Liberal party just wants to turn Canada into the Netherlands. Time for me to go away.

I'm going to ignore the whole "values" assumption in your post and just say, "Um, dude, I'll trade you."

Portia di Rossi is definitely out -- I've heard/read about her talking about it.

People think that homosexuality or bisexuality in Hollywood is a new thing, but it really isn't, at all. When doing research on "Rebel Without a Cause," you would be surprised at how many (substantiated) rumors of bisexuality and homosexuality there was among the cast -- of course Sal Mineo, but I believe the director might have been involved/wanted to be involved with both Sal Mineo and James Dean, there's homosexual subtext throughout the film, of course some people speculate that Sal Mineo's character was supposed to have a crush on James Dean's character (although others think it was supposed to be more of a paternal relationship, it's hard to tell because naturally with the regulations of that time period there was NO WAY a homosexual relationship or even homosexual tendencies could be portrayed in mainstream cinema) -- so many things I can't even think of right now. People think of celebrities of that age (or earlier ages) as being so classy and reserved and uptight, but in reality tons and tons of celebrities back in the day behaved in ways that would be considered scandalous today -- it just wasn't reported in the mainstream news the way it might be now, and it was banned from the movies and television themselves for a long time. Lots of members of the European nobility, spanning centuries, also engaged in homosexual behavior, although many biographers have downplayed or even ignored this aspect of history . . .
