I pictured Rosario Dawson, Beyonce' , Lauren Valez (New York Under Cover), or Rosie Perez (Do The Right Thing) as Dulce (The woman who visited Santiaga in jail with the little boy.
Derek Luke good choice for Midnight

Good Choice CT4!!!!!! She was really good in the 25th Hour.
My other recommendations:
Santiaga: Mario Van Peeples or Giancarlo Esposito, if he's still looks good
Bullet: Cam'ron, I haven't seen Paid In Full so I don't know about his acting skills, but he seems like he could do it
Mother: Tamala Jones, it has to be someone young because she had Winter at 14
Midnight: Morris Chestnut or Tyson Beckford
***Sidebar: This book to me just like Flyy Girl, except for the next generation. Has anyone else noticed how both of the main characters were in love guys who were really dark skinned????? Hmmm, I wonder why. ***

I know I posted my suggestions somewhere else before, but I can't find where, so I'm gonna re-submit them here:
Winter: Taral Hicks (she played Keisha in Belly)
Santiaga: Giancarlo Esposito
Winter's mother: Khandi Alexander, Vivica Fox, Whitty Hutton or Jada Pinkett-Smith
Midnight: Morris Chestnut or Omar Epps
Natalie: Lil' Kim ('cuz Natalie was a PHREAK in the book)
Winter's siblings: anybody
Bullet: Silkk the Shocker
The reason why I suggest Taral to play Winter is because Winter is described as kinda dark skinned and I think she can pull it off. The reason why I picked Giancarlo for Santiaga is because in the book, he's described as light skinned with curly hair, and he's light skinned with curly hair. As far as Winter's mom, Khandi is my first choice. And Silkk resembles Bullet to me as far as his description goes. JMHO........
ETA: I think that Rosario Dawson could play Dulce. She's young, pretty, and I'm pretty sure she can pull off the part.

I never realized that Winter was dark skinned...I imagined her to look something like Rosario Dawson or that latino Chick on Scrubs.
I'd love to see Morris Chestnut (GOOD LAWD) play Midnight!

I read in Essence that Sister Souljah is writing a part two to this book and the movie is going to be a HBO movie for the first book. I can't wait!

I believe sequel will be out around first of 2004. I am sure it will be off the hook.

I don't really know about a sequel. I have a sinking suspicion that it will not be quite as good as the first one. I can't really see where it would go or what she would do. Did the time in jail change her or not? What will she do when she gets out?
I think that Sister Souljah did a really good job on the first book. There were only a few parts that I found unrealistic or thought could have been written better. But, the book as a whole made an incredible statement. The ending was te perfect conclusion to the story. Sometimes I think people should leave well enough alone. For some reason, I keep seeing this sequel being like the sequel to Flyy Girl.

I am hoping it does not turn out like that waste of paper. I hated "For the Love of Money". I don't think Omar Tyree has written a good book since "Flyy Girl".

I don't know about a sequel either. What is Winter supposed to do? Everybody was locked up right there with her!
Well I am waiting for the screen version on HBO. I'm sure that will be great.

I forgot about her sisters. I wonder if any of them plan on following in Winter's footsteps trying to make it big in the fast lane.

Remember at the end of the book Winter said her 2nd oldest sister was living the fast life like she used to.

I forgot about the sisters...they could probably focus more on the 2nd oldest one instead of the younger ones.
But still...I wonder where Winter would fit in if she would at all. In any case I will still give the sequel a shot when it comes out.

Actors in The Coldest Winter
This was the kind of book that makes you feel like you really knew the people by the time you close it. I was really sad for Winter, her sister, father, mother, friends, etc. It should be mandatory reading in inner city schools especially. There's a new book out called Ghetto Girls that suppose to be just as good. I gotta go over to 125th street and pick it up.
IMO:
Santiaga-Benjamin Bratt
Midnight-DMX
Who could play Winter? That's probably gonna be someone fresh on the acting scene cuz I cant think of anyone. Maybe Amerie??
