I have an update on this situation, but it's pretty upsetting.

A landscaper who was doing work for a family that lives about a mile away from me and he went into the shed to get something and noticed a rotten smell. He found the decomposing body of a cat and called the police because he saw that a sort of noose had been fashioned around its neck.

When the county animal control officers arrived, they found what they believe is the corpse of the mama kitty whose kittens were tortured and killed last week (ETA: it was actually last month). Like I said, she was found with a rope around her neck and it appeared that she had been swung around into stationary objects. Her eyes had both been gouged out and twigs had been shoved into her vagina and anus.

I can't believe something like this happened in my neighborhood. Oh, and the 14 year old who's family owns the shed admitted that he and a group of his friends decided to do this "just for fun". His father, who is a very prominent attorney in Annapolis was heard to say that "They were only stray cats, who cares?" I was talking with one of my neighbors at the beach today and she made a comment comparing the mama cat with a Baltimore City welfare mom who spits out kids when she can't take care of them. It's hard to shock me, but I was rendered speechless!

What the hell is wrong with people???

(although, in fairness, the vast majority of neighbors are AT LEAST as upset with this as I am)

i sure as h*ll hope they press charges. i don't know what the laws for animal cruelty are in your state, but i hope they nail the bastards. i can almost guarantee you that if PETA hears about this, they will be on them like white on rice and won't ease up until someone pays dearly. (hint hint maybe a couple of us can report this to PETA)

ps - yes that is how some serial killers have gotten started

Actually, it can be. I could go hunt down one of my Abnormal Psych casebooks to find specific examples, because I've read some scary ones. There is plenty of research to support the theory that children who start by torturing and/or killing animals would eventually start torturing and/or killing people.

Who cares? Well, society cares. I'd hate to see that dad have to represent (or prosecute) someone accused of such a crime, especially if it turned out that the defendant started by torturing and killing small animals during his or her youth.

I am appalled over the actions of the kids who committed the atrocities and the attitudes of the attorney and KR's neighbor.

You would think that, since the boy's father is a prominent attorney, he would know that something probably isn't right with his kid. I seriously hope someone gets this kid into counseling or something.

For those who read my post about the bunny beheading... well that happened in Rockville. I seriously doubt it was the same kid that did it due to the distance, but it's an odd coincidence that these things happened at roughly the same time in such relative close proximity.

That makes me sad and a horrible way to start off the day. I hope they punish that wierd kid. And maybe if the town heard about this situation his lawyer dad wouldn't be so prominent anymore.

I love cats! And I am going to be a foster this week. The local animal shelter allows people to be fosters to animals and they provide anything the animal may need. All we have to do is show up to pet drives hosted by them on the weekends.

I was just about to say that.

Many serial killers started out by torturing animals.

This is so sick.

Well, the son obviously has few constraints on him. The father doesn't seem to believe that his son needs to be a decent, humane or caring person. To then compare the cats to welfare moms... Does he think we need to impale their children and hang the parents as well? What a disgusting couple of people. Complete wastes of oxygen.

There are truly no words for the amount of disgust and hatred I feel towards this kid and his friends. The father is a P.O.S. as well, and they both deserve to be prosecuted. The son for obvious reasons and the father for raising hell-spawn like that and being inhumane. I hope they both burn in hell. Karma is a bitch, boys.
