Okay, I did'nt navagate a search before startin a thread so I will re-post it here because the thread I did will be deleted soon...

My grandmoma said :

Cold Toddy
Whiskey+Honey+Lemon)or lemon juice)+vinegar = cold gone
(worked for me and my son my family uses this one)

Hair Growth
Glovers Mane + Petroleum Jelly (mix well) grew my hair and others I know that used it that had hair breakage around the edges, especially kids. This is also good for dandruff ( put on hour before wasshing). My mom used this on us as kids and I still use it. WARNING!!! the smell is not attractive, but heck, it grew my familys hair. (lol)

Sinus
Warm water+1/2 tsb of salt (dislove the salt) sniff up your nose and then let it run out (keep doing this for half a cup). This dries you up. this is good for sinus pressure as well.

and the list goes on.....if you have any questions lets ask the board too....

My mother's favorite for reducing a fever (and i hated it w/ a passion!)

Take about 2-3 potatoes (depends on size) and slice about 1" thick. Sprinkle with salt and place in a dishtowel still in sliced formation. Wrap lengthwise in towel and then place towel around forehead and secure in back of head with safety pin. When the potatoes turn black the fever is broken.

I hated this remedy because the potato headband was hot and it made me sweat, but darned if it didn't work every time. Even my hubby has had this done to him as a child and it worked for him.

No tylenol, no aleve. Just potatoes and salt.

Take 1 teaspoon of baking soda with water before eating collard greens. It helps prevent gas.

Just found this out from my elderly great-aunts last night. Who'da thunk it????

For those blemishes that are not there in the morning but during the day you see it coming (pms): when you get home that night, put a dap of white toothpaste (not the gel) on the pimple. sleep with it on, wash it in the morning with your regular cleaning routine; This will dry it out and be gone the next day or so.

Question Homemade Cleaning Products

My question isn't exactly about home remedies, but somewhere along those lines. I found some recipes for making homemade cleaning solutions (dish detergent, disinfectant, etc). One of the ingredients that is required is liquid Castile soap. Does anyone know what type of store would sell it? I'm not sure if it's something I'd find at Wally World or if it would be found at a specialty store of some type.

Not sure if this is considered a home remedy or not but......

For pots & skillets that have hard to scrub residue left in them from cooking add 2 dryer sheets and warm to hot water and let soak while washing other dishers. Chemicals from dryer sheets pulls the residue and leaves no scrubbing for you. I swear by this anytime Mr. #1 Leading Lady cooks. He thinks everything should be cooked on HIGH.

I'm a health nut so I must introduce Braggs ACV. I don't have to tell many of you the medicinal benefits of ACV but I can't help but spread this liquid wonder. (gosh, I sound like a gameshow host). I use it religiously and it works wonders. It heals all types of ailments and is healthier for your body than commercial vinegars. My mom is a diabetic and she has her sick days but since she's been taking the vinegar drink daily the past few years her symptoms have almost dissipated. It's been good at helping to keep her blood sugar under control. Trust me, this product(and other products they offer) really work. Check out the site.

Here is a link that has all kinds of odd things found around the house you can use.

For example:

Baby magic powder:
Repels Ants
cure a squeaky floor board
hide a stain on a white suit
cleans grease from walls .. etc.

The website is http://www.wackyuses.com

enjoy!

This may sound so disgusting, but it has worked for my brother and i.

For dry rough coughs:

Slice an onion and boil it together with honey in a small pot. Let it cool or become warm, then mix in some lemon. And Serve

It's also good to have an aloe plant around, prefer the African aloe plant, but it all works the same. If you get burned you just put on some aloe and you don't remain with a hideous scar.

ALoe is also good for teh hair, although the smell isn't pleasant.
