You haven't seen "Demolition Man" then?

There's a line in that movie (which is set a few decades from now) about the "Schwarzenegger Presidential Library." In the movie, the Constitution had been amended to allow foreign-born citizens to run for President because of Ahhhnold's popularity as a politician.

I don't really feel that Arnold is going to do any good for the state of California.

I just started laughing when I heard that he wanted to do this.. its obvious he hasnt been doing his research to see what happened in VA. When Gilmore was trying to get elected with the slogan "no car tax" I thought people were fools for voting for him. People now see the mistakes and why taxes are neccessary and why CA only needs more at this point.

It generally takes many years (literally) to ratify a Constitutional Amendment, because, unless I remember my civics classes incorrectly, a large majority of the states (3/4?) also have to ratify it.

Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong on that -- it's been a long time since high school for me.

Arnold will probably be too old to run for President before that can happen.

One thing I simply can't understand is how educated people can look at a state or nation that is already in a budget crisis and deficit spending, and expect to solve it by bringing in LESS money through tax cuts.

I know that the extra discretionary income is supposed to be spent and that bolsters the economy. On paper, that sounds good, but in reality a major tax cut's impact on the average family is in the hundreds of dollars a year. Personally, I'd rather have the government keep the money to spend on schools, roads and healthcare, etc.

How do you feel about rapidly rising tuition and fees because of less federal and state aid?

And that's what is going to happen next. They did it to the students in Wisconsin and our state budget crisis isn't comparable to California's.

Education will be next, how do all you students in Cali feel about that?

The Democrats have already cut education and raised the fees for higher education in recent months, after promising not to touch either in the last election. At the same time, they have proposed giving certain illegal aliens a free ride in CA Community Colleges. Raise rates for some and cut programs for others, but give a free ride to illegals. Only in California. CA has gone from a 30 billion dollar surplus to at least a 10 billion dollar deficit in the past 5 years and it seems the majority of CA voters are ready for a change in management.

So where is the 10 billlion going to come from after Arnold cuts taxes?

I would rather have better public higher education and slightly higher taxes.

But what do I know? Florida doesn't do income tax, and I went to out-of-state private schools.

Only in America can a former Mr. Olympia from Austria become governor of California.

I'm concerned that this might be a rude awakening for some of the people who elected him. He may be a Republican, but he seems very progressive.

My desire generally is to try not to make decisions on a "Republican/Democrat -- Conservative/Liberal" reasoning because I don't consider myself any of the above.

And, I'm pretty tired of hearing the sanctimonious baying from both sides.

However, when the present governor of Colorado (Republican) took office, the state had a huge budget surplus handed over by the previous governor and fairly evenly divided legislature. He ran on a tax cut platform, cut taxes and now we have a huge budget crisis.

President Bush ran on a tax cut platform. There was allegedly a surplus and we were paying off the national debt. So, we get a nominal tax cut, and a very expensive war at the same time. I might be OK with one or the other. But do the Arithmetic -- it's not even tough enough to be called Math. You simply can't spend more and take in less and expect it to work -- I don't care which party is in or who is President.

Unless, of course, you drastically cut costs and programs.

By the time tax cuts are spread across the general population, they really don't mean much in terms of spendable income. They are a purely political animal -- something to get people elected -- and, unfortunately the average taxpayer/voter doesn't realize how little it actually puts back in her/his pocket as opposed to the effect on the lives of everyone.

They officially uncapped tuiton for public universities so now they can charge whatever!

1. He better repeal the car tax or we are going to have a lot of unregistered cars, including mine, driving around. My reg fees for my 2003 VW were already $500, and now they are going to be $1500?? I don't think so.

2. Los Angeles county also voted against the recall. Which is pretty much how I thought it would end up-- LA and Bay Area against it.
