Oh wow....Digital, you have a lot on your plate! Please update us on this Daisy thing.....did you kick her out? Anyways, it sounds like where you are living (the physical structure, I mean) is an okay place and you would have no problem finding a friend/someone not crazy who is having problems in the dorms or whatever to fill in. Good luck!

I'm a bit confused - I thought you guys had all signed a lease together, and that you wrote one big rent check each month to cover everyone.

If you're writing separate checks, your landlord should demand that any further checks from her be cashier's checks or money orders. This is pretty standard... part of the rental agreement at my last apartment stated that if a rent check ever bounced, you had to pay by cashier's check from then on (until you moved out). If you're writing one big check, whoever writes the check should ask her for a cashier's check.

You may want to double-check the terms of your lease... you may have to renegotiate it once Daisy is gone. You will probably also have to cover what was her share of the rent until you find a new housemate.

On the up side, now is a good time to find someone - no one wants to move mid-semester.

Who decides who moves in? Is it up to you, your landlord, or both?

Good luck - I hope you get a better housemate this time!

We all signed the same lease, but we all write different checks

She hadn't written bad checks to the landlords at all, she still hasn't. The only thin they're aggravated with is the fact they they haven't yet gotten their rent for this month, that was due 10 days ago. They already know to take cashier's checks or money orders only from her anyways, I already told them.

If she leaves or gets kicked out, the girl that subleased the room to her is responsible for the payment if she defaults on it. If neither of them pay, the landlords will prosecute. It's not over our heads, thank goodness.

On the up side, now is a good time to find someone - no one wants to move mid-semester.

We're trying!!! We've got a couple prospectives that we're going to look into, but they found the house just like Daisy and I both did (www.roommateservice.com), so we need to meet them and stuff first.

Who decides who moves in? Is it up to you, your landlord, or both?

Both.

Good luck - I hope you get a better housemate this time!

Thanks!!!

Talking Oh Glorious Day!!!!

Well, enough was enough... I finally called Daisy's dad myself last night (as opposed to letting my other roommates call him and fumbling for words) and more or less told him that if someone doesn't come get her stuff in the next couple days that it was all going to Goodwill...Apparently that wasn't going to work out for them because Daisy's mom came down today from where she lives to get as much of Daisy's isht as she could... The poor woman, I feel so bad for her.. I don't know what I would do with a chld lilke thy, they seem like they've tried over and over and over to help her....

I also found out how Daisy had money the whole time she lived down here when she was writing bad checks. Apparently she had been writing bad checks to her friends back home and having them deposit them and giving her the cash for them. Real bright, eh?? Oh well...

We also now know where she's staying, though nobody really cares. Apparently she's living with her friend's boyfriend's grandmother. Don't know how that happened....

I can't wait till all of this comes to a head and bites her in the ass, she's screwed over so many people...She owes a month's rent and three months worth of utility bills....

The physical last of this should be Monday when her dad comes down with a trailer to get her furniture, thank gawd. Legally/financially, it could go on forever....

I'm glad for you guys, but very worried for "Granny". I hope she doesn't get her claws on any bank records or checks...
She appears to have a criminal mind.

Yeah, one can only hope that Granny has an eye for theifs.. I got more background yesterday from one of Daisy's ex friends.. I guess the whole time she was down here when she always had cash and none of us knew how she had money, I guess she was driving back to where she was from (little over an hour), writing checks to her friends, having them cash them at their banks, and then getting the cash from them. Scandalous bitch!!! LOL Her mom also told me that she is annoyed that Daisy is avoiding her, but she's not surprised... She was telling me about Daisy taking off before she lived with us and disappearing, and about how people would find her living in her car, sleeping in K-mart parking lots and such. Her ex friend also was telling me that things were always missing from their circle of friends where they're from, for years, and they could never figure out who it was even though they had suspected her before... The amount of audacity meets supidity never ceases to amaze me.

Of course this girl has no excuse for any of her actions. She's been a horrible friend, roommate, and terribly irresponsible. Honestly, I think she probably needs derious professional help. I can't think anyone would enjoy behaving this way, or living in her car, for example. I believe she should definitely be held responsible for her actions, but has anyone considered that she may really need help? Not that it's any of your or your friends' job to find it for her, but just something to consider.

I think she needs all the help she can get.. I think she's a klepto and needs help for that... I think she's deviant and needs help for that.. I think she lacks attention in her mind and needs help for that. Not saying none of it is her fault, but the girl does need help. Help or not, youre right, she is still responsible for everything she's done.

Ok, I'm not trying to "out-do" DigitalAngel, but I was just about to dig up the "Roommate horror stories" thread to post my story when I came across *this* thread. It seems to fit better here.

You will NOT believe what happend to my (biological) sister.

For 5 years I rented a house while I went to college. There were 3 bedrooms; and thus I had two roommates. One of them happend to be my sister and the other changed every so often. Most recently, our friend of 10 years moved in as the third roommate. It was all good. Then I had to move out so that I could go to England to get my Master's degree. So, my sister "Tina" and our friend "Diane" had to find someone to replace me.

They put an ad in the paper or something in November and ended up selecting someone they thought was cool and responsible; we'll call her "Stacy". Stacy was cool at first but then things started going missing. It turned out that Stacy a hard drug user (crystal meth) who is a con artist *and* has an obesessive-complusive disorder.

At the beginning of December she started stealing belongings from my sister and the other flatmate. Somehow she got Diane's mother's personal bank information and made fraudulent bank transfers to her own account to the tune of $620. She used my sister's name to illegally apply for multiple unemployment benefits. She racked up tens of thousands of dollars in online purchases etc. Stacy also doesn't pay rent.

Then Stacy "borrowed" my sister's car for one hour (with her permission...for ONE HOUR) and disappeared for over 12 hours (overnight). Since she was presumed gone, they went into Stacy's room the next morning to see if they could find their stolen property. They did - a closet full of their clothes, furniture, shoes, bath soaps....you name it.

All of a sudden, Stacy comes home and finds out that she's been caught. Diane immediately leaves and goe to her brother's house. Stacy then calls the police and has my sister arrested for burglary. I don't get how you can be arrested for burglary in your own house. This is especially dumb since my sister and Diane were the only two people on the renatl agreement. Stacy isn't even on the lease!!! The police are currently conducting an investigation into why the responding officers falsely arrested my sister. Apparently Stacy's a real sweet-talker and talked the police into hauling my sister away. Diane didn't get arrested because she had left, I guess. During this fisaco, Stacy managed to get all three sets of house keys AND still had the keys to my sister's car (a 2000 VW Jetta).

Anyway, my sister was in jail for four days, including Christmas day. I was very upset because I had no way of getting her out. While she was in jail, Stacy locked everyone out of the house and refused to come out. Also, my dad and Diane's parent's noted that my sister's car was parked in a different place each day - that is to say that Stacy drove my sister's car while she was in jail. They took pictures everytime the car was moved.

On Christmas Eve the charges were completely dropped against my sister. The judge said the arrest was nonsense and that she should have never been arrested to start with. She was released the next day (which was Christmas Day).

When my sister, Diane and Diane's parents went back to the house, all heck broke loose with Stacy who refused to even let the police in. Though, they finally forced her to open the door. That's when they found all the damage. Stacy and her friends vandalised the interiors by spraypainting the walls and stole everything that wasn't nailed down, including the Christmas presents and *my sister's cat*. She tried telling the police that she was going to paint over the valdalism and that is ok because "I live here". The police officer questioned her about being on the lease; and, when she couldn't back herself up on it, he put her in her place about the spraypaint. When asked about the car keys, Stacy claimed that she "didn't know where the key were". To date, Stacy has my sister's car keys. Though, my sister is using the spare set - it will cost her $400 to have the locks replaced.

Well the landlord forced Stacy out and she's now gone.

But, she's still causing damage.

We've since found out that she's damaged my sister's computer. She's been buying lots of computer equipment online. She stole my sister's state ID card, her old driver's license and my sister's PASSPORT (whoops, federal offence there). She also stole my sister's checks. Now, she's gone on a spending spree of about $4,000 of which my sister's checking account is $2,300 overdrawn. $1,600 of that was at Office Depot (another laptop computer I presume). She opend up a credit card account in my sister's name.

A Nordstrom's package arrived to the house with someone else's name on it. They did some investigating and found ot that Stacy stole some lady's credit card number and was making online purchases.

Additionally, my sister and Diane found credit card applications which were sent to me (Navane) offering me credit for my business (I own a small-business). They weren't filled out, but the mail was opened by Stacy. This may be an indication that she has, or was considering, committing fraudulent credit card transactions in my name and thinking that I wouldn't notice if I was in England. I now have to call up the three credit companies (Experian...etc) to put a fraud alert on my name and my company's name.

Unfortunately, they couldn't have Stacy arrested for some stupid reason. They only suggested that she be taken to court. Yeah, ok, right, let's see: ~ $8,000 worth of money and property stolen, vandalism, indentity theft, check fraud, credit fraud, bank fraud, drug use, and a federal passport offence and oh no...they can't arrest her.

Anyway...this has all happened in about a 5-week time frame. See how much damage can be done?

Oh well, we're compiling a mountain of evidence against this girl. Hopefully a warrant for her arrest will be issued soon enough.
