I believe knowledge is power, and PNM's come here for advice and knowledge. If we don't give them honest, accurate information, they will be ill-prepared, which could lead to a bad impression of the Greek community in general.[/QUOTE]

As an oos pnm, knowing that some houses make early cuts based on grades alone, actually makes me feel better because I have a solid GPA, so thank you!

And that is where I worry PNMs may be misled accidentally. Chapters may know even before recruitment that Bertha Badgrades and Lauren LowGPA will be dropped after round 1, but that does not mean that Betsy Boring and Patty Promiscuous are safe until round 2 just because their GPAs are good. Large chapters, particularly at SEC schools and using RFM, must make very steep cuts during the first and second rounds of recruitment. Dropping girls after round 1 who do not make their grade requirements is a simple way to tackle some of those cuts, but by no means does it guarantee a return invite for round 2 to any PNM with a 4.0.

Ladies, discussion of Membership Selection business is considered either internal business or ritual by some GLO's traditionally it is not discussed in GreekChat threads. If you insist on discussing such matters or if war breaks out, the thread will be at risk for being locked and/or deleted. And just because someone has personal knowledge of what goes on behind closed doors on another campus or a GLO not chartered at Ole Miss, does not mean they are knowledgeable about what happens at Ole Miss. Please keep this to Ole Miss matters and Ole Miss information.

Yes, I am indeed testy today, as I had to prepare for today's trial which always makes me less tolerant of folks who don't get polite subtle hints. THIS ^^^ is your less subtle hint.

She didn't say grades alone. She said grades and QR (questionable reputation). The second is what is sticking in my lil ol craw. As I told her in a PM, I find it amusing that she has the vapors over the suggestion of a cuss word but finds it perfectly acceptable that a girl's happiness in college and perhaps afterward can be scuttled by rumor and innuendo without the girl even being given a chance to prove herself.

And MP, preach it. I know that we don't want PNMs to think everything is roses and daisies, but some of the stuff on here is just a little too close to private for me to feel good about it. It's hard for me to reconcile the "look how many OOS PNMs there are" threads with some of the things being said.

The effect - and even perception -- of reputation has been discussed often on this forum -- it is not specific to any particular chapter's membership selection.

Alums of any chapter can send a negative recommendation -- this has been discussed here. PNMs are advised (here, elsewhere, and even by HS guidance counselors) to sanitize their social media for this reason.

So some truthful advice -- PNMs would be wise to be cautious about their behavior (including when they land on the Ole Miss campus), and also with their social media. Twenty minutes worth of a "chance" to prove oneself may not be enough to overcome an impression already formed (whether it is accurate or not, unfortunately).

If in doubt, err on the side of caution. If something on your social media can be misinterpreted in a negative way, remove it. Crazy funny party pics may not favorably impress actives and alums.

Neither will tweeting "STFU."

I heard from an Ole Miss active today that a little over 1600 girls are registered and they expect a total of 1800 to be registered by the deadline. Is that true? Wouldn't that make quota 200 if all girls attended pref parties? I know Ole Miss is competitive but geez...

It's a little over 1200 as of yesterday according to my inside source.

Not everyone who starts rush will make it to pref. Not everyone who goes through recruitment will get a bid.

Check Here Back For Updates (to this post and additions to the thread.)

Registration for Fall Formal Recruitment (Sorority Rush) - Panhellenic Recruitment Registration Opens on May 15, 2013 and closes on September 9, 2013.

Ice Water Teas - Sunday, September 8, 2013 [THIS IS A NEW DATE!]

C.A.R.E. Walk - Friday, September 26, 2013 - an annual event hosted by the Panhellenic Council for which the proceeds benefit breast cancer research.

Panhellenic Convocation - Sunday, September 29, 2013

Recruitment Week - Monday, September 30 to Sunday 6, 2013

There is no minimum grade to participate but potential new members should know that virtually all of the Chapters on campus require a 3.0 GPA (as a minimum, if not more) to carry the PNM through to Preference Party.

This is a competitive recruitment campus and Letters of Reference and Recommendations should be considered to be necessary. Some folks suggest two recs per Chapter as a minimum.

I don't know how it is done these days but many moons ago when I went through we were divided by last names. One of my dearest friends and I still laugh about how our names were 2 letters off of each other so we met first during orientation, again in rush groups and then ended up pledging the same house- we were "destined" to be sisters...
