Okay, perhaps I'm just still young and don't really get it or perhaps it's because I went to school with the same people from 1st grade through high school graduation, but why is it so wrong for someone in college to keep in touch with some of the friends they graduated high school with? I have plenty of friends in college and in my chapter, but I still keep in VERY close contact with 2 of my best friends I had in HS and in pretty close contact with another. Granted, there are many friends I had back then who I really don't talk to anymore. I guess I'm just not understanding why it's a bad thing to have a support system of friends at college and still have friends from your past as well.

i don't think that anyone said that it is wrong to stay in touch with high school friends. i have been graduated from hs for mucho years and still keep in touch with one dear friend weekly and a few others when the mood strikes.
i would venture to guess that "mom" is afraid that daughter is relying too heavily on her hs friends for social interaction and could get stuck in the high school mindset, not expanding her circle of friends and growing herself. i have seen classmates go off to the same college and not expand their circle of friends-they stay bunched up in the same group they ran around with in hs, doing the same things they did in hs. no personal growth there at all.

Here's a good Auburn story to whet our appetites for recruitment! Auburn's is in just a little over a month!

It's funny, I point all moms who seem too overconfident in their daughter's chances to get into either a "top" house or their legacy house at an SEC school to this very thread.
Especially when they use the "well back in my day in my chapter at Small Ohio University, all the legacies got bids to their legacy house" line. This is certainly not BG, Akron, or wherever you rushed in 1978.
Also, here's the link to last years' "huge Auburn thread":

and the "huge Auburn thread of 2008":

Thanks to Carnation for bumping this thread. I've just returned from Grand Convention; while there, I made a list of chapters and campuses I'd love to visit. Auburn is high on the list. Great enthusiasm about Theta returning to such a fantastic campus and Greek community.
Looking forward to reading about upcoming recruitments all over the country.

For those of us that are Recruitment junkies .. it to bad we can't get Auburn to position one of their campus web cameras on the new sorority housing. :-)

Loved this thread! Is this year the first year for recolonized Theta to participate in Aubrun recruitment?

The two above posters are correct- it is the second. Last year the chapter took quota + 15 in their first ever recruitment!
I just returned from convention and the chapter president for the Auburn Thetas was very impressive. She mentioned that the chapter has won a slew of awards on her campus. (I would list them, but there were so many, and she went through them so fast that I can't even remember them all!)
Best of luck to the Gamma Omega chapter for their second formal recruitment.

Hello to all on Greek Chat...
I am Kate's Mom, the OP for this thread. I haven't been on Greek Chat for sometime and it was fun to see that this thread was still being bumped. Kate is a senior now and just finished her last rush at Auburn--she loves the new, little DG's. Kate's enjoyed her time at Auburn and as part of the DG sisterhood. Here's to the newest little Auburn DG's. I hope your 4 years are every bit as wonderful as my daughters!
