Actually I debated adding the detail that the person who shared these "first hand" stories with me was more than a little racist. I was a young child at the time, still unsure of who/what to challenge, so I didn't. But I was very uncomfortable with her line of humor and even at that age doubtful of the validity of her tales.

It's funny to me how it's always a friend who knows these people with the urban legend names. It's also funny to me how gullible people can be at swallowing bullshit when someone's pulling his/her leg when the story being told feeds into his/her preconceived notions about a group of people.

Just saying.

So back to the spirit in which the thread started rather than this precipitously racist one it appears to be going down. What are the names of demon spawn children you've known over the years that have ruined that name for you forever? Orangejello, Female, and Shithead were perfect angels when they were in the after school program I worked in college, but Tanner and Ryan were simply awful.

Natürlich, aber "Gerda," "Gretchen," Gertrude," "Gerlinde," "Gertraude" . . . .

Es tut mir Leid! Gredericka?

I would like to say that even though I started this thread awhile back, the Austins and Destinys and rhymes-with-Aidens are still terrorizing our schools here and my kids know they should never name a kid any of those.

Ha! I did google the name, and found genealogical-type hits from the 1700s and early 1800s.

My mom went to school with a girl named Chrys Lear.
Her full name was Chrystal Chanda Lear.

My great-grandmother went to school (in Texas) with Ima Hogg.

In my small town in Oklahoma, there were 2 women who married into the names of Blanche Branch and Grace Brace.
I also went to Junior High with a Sharelle Dorrell.

I HATE the name Austin because of one kid who tormented me in middle school. He was the only person in all of my schooling who essentially bullied me.

My friend's cousin married into the last name Beach. Her first name is Sandy.

There's a woman who works for my company whose name is Nancy Chancy.

There was a campus leader (and member of a BGLO) at my alma mater named Forest Branch.

Interesting. I thought it was an original creation. I say this is one name that should not have been resurrected!

That's interesting!

My observations:

1. Frederica was one of the least popular names of 2012...so, Gredericka would probably be a stinker with most people, too.

2. Some of the unpopular names seem quite creative. Imagine trying to be unique and finding out that you'd chosen a non-unique "bad name" instead.

and this...

http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/mess...ry?id=20589366

From the article: "For those who are curious, other so-called narcissistic names came in with the following tallies: Beautiful (51), Gorgeous (14), Boss (12), Amazing (11) and Awesome (6)."

My mind is just boggled that even 5 people thought that Lucifer was a good idea for a boy's name.
