Yeah how do you recruit and pledge for that?
She could always join Delta Upsilon Mu Beta Sorority. They would enjoy her enthusiasm! Then we will see her in one of these threads, like Chapter Ops, wondering why getting everyone together is tough and asking us what do we do about it.

Maybe she could get a charter for Sigma Tau Upsilon Pi Delta...are they currently chartering new chapters?
Then I will see her in the local forum asking what letters stand for and how to get a crest designed and how to pick colors.

Here's a new one... Zeta Alpha Zeta Sorority... But it might be too girly for her because of the "house mother"?

They looked awfully girly, like the kind that might get dressed up for chapel.

Starting a sorority is hard work. There's a lot more to it than wanting one thats "not girly." If you're going to attract others to this new thing you're starting, it's going to have to be more than that.

alright..
i go to a private baptist school, and all of the sororities here on campus are pretty... girly... for lack of a better word.
dressing up on chapel days and the like.
there's a large number of girls, myself included, here that do not fit into the type of group that all these sororities are...
i was wondering if there are any out there that are not like this?
like.. i guess just more action and recreation based and not so.... cliche?
my friend is talking about starting one, but i figured i could see if theres something already there that we dont know about yet.
a sorority for the girls that dont act like girls... heh

Hi Marie!
I think there is one sorta fundamental concern I have.... and that is whether "Girl Power" kind of girls would want to be in a sorority at all.
It DOES sound like there is a niche at your school for something, but I am not sure a sorority is the answer.
If your Greek system was larger, I am sure that at least one of the sororities would be known as the "sporty" sorority, but since your system seems to be small, maybe that doesn't exist.
Anyway....Maybe you just want to start a club, or even an informal sort of "clique" of girls who all hang out together.
Does you school have special interest housing? Maybe you get get a number of girls together to get a block of dorm rooms who like the same things.
Also, if you're intent on having it be a Greek letter organization, maybe you want to start a coed -- having guys involved might ensure that the estrogen levels remain low.

There are chapters out there that aren't "prissy" and yes, there are many "Girl Power" kind of girls in most/all of the sororities. I'm one of them even though I can be "prissy" since I have different sides and so do many other women. We're not all "prissy" (not that there's anything wrong with being prissy) and for the record, it is possible to be about "Girl Power" and be "prissy" at the same time.

There are different types of women in all of the sororities so if you can't see yourself being among the chapter members on your campus, you might want to look into chartering a chapter of a different sorority. Then you and your friends can project the kind of personality that fits you all as long as you adhere to the rules of the sorority. You'll need to find out first if your school is open to the idea of bringing another sorority to the campus. If they are, then start to research the different organizations that are currently not on your campus. When you find the one that you and your friends are interested in, contact the org and ask about their chartering opportunities.

Relative to her campus, I don't think she has found that to be true.
