Yes, Barbie Girl is obnoxious, but you have to admit that it was a highly iconic song of the 1990s.
For that reason, I think it should have made the list.

I did think of another song: I'll Be Missing You (Diddy).

I gotta say, even though a lot were missing.....most of the songs that DID make the list were my JAM!!!
I literally became a man in the 90s.... I was in 5th grade in 1990 and a Junior in college by the end of 1999.

S Club-7 didn't become popular until after 2000 here in America. I'm so glad that Nirvana had the #1 song of the 90s. BSB at #3? You've got to be kiddin' me!
I miss the 90s. Things we're so simple during that time.

I agree. I don't get how that song ended up at #3. A more popular or influential song than "Jeremy" or "Waterfalls"? I don't think so!

im so mad that i missed the last hour of this series! but Nirvana's "Smells like Teen Spirit" i think was a good #1 choice - it does scream 90s for me, but too bad it doesnt reflect as many genres of the 90s. but i think grunge screams 90s more than, say, gangsta rap or boy bands. i so need to get it on my iPod.
random notes:
1. i was just WAITING for Mariah Carey/Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day" to be on there and it sho wasnt! doesnt it hold some Billboard record?
2. though i was a HUGE BSB fan, the fact that they made it at #3 (and for one of their lesser hits - i mean what about "All I have to Give?") vs *NSYNC's #30 "Tearing up my heart (would SO trade in for "Bye Bye Bye," which, though released 3/2000, i think another song on this list was released in 2000...) is a sure way of knowing that this list is BOGUS!
3. no DMB??? come on! and where is Prodigy "Smack my B*tch up?"
but i will say a lot of these songs were my JAM and wish they were on my iPod. VH1 needs to compile a CD or have some iTunes link for me to DL these songs - i think i'd like about half the songs on this list on my playlist.

BoysIIMen was one of the biggest groups of the early 90s...I can't believe they're not on the list. Ah, I remember the days of dancing with a boy at a middle school dance to "It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday."

I LOVE that song (the slow version)!

How the Hell did The backstreetboys rank #3?
When ever I think of the 90's I think about BIIM's "End of the Road"
96,97, 99, and 100 should have been left off the list.

So I watched a few minutes of this with my dad.....Laughed at the fashions that I copied when I was kid...I did not like most of the song choices...
No Ace of Base....It saddens me...The Sign kinda was an anthem when i was a kid!!! lol!!!

Also, there were a lot of artists that I would have picked different songs to represent them on the list.
For example: The Cranberries "Zombie," not "Linger"
There were only about 10 songs I would honestly take off the list, but here are some I think were seriously overlooked:
* Los Del Rio - The Macarena
* Boys II Men - Motown Philly
* Fat Boy Slim - The Rockerfeller Skank
* Mandy Moore - Candy
* Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise
* Shaggy - Boombastic
* Aqua - Barbie Girl
* Des'ree - You Gotta Be
* Ini Kamoze - Here Comes The Hotstepper
* All for One - I Swear
* Michael Jackson - Black or White
* Roxette - It Must Have Been Love
* Leann Rimes - How Do I Live
* Snap - Rhythm Is A Dancer
* Quad City DJs - C'mon And Ride (The Train)
* Big Punisher & Joe - I Don't Wanna Be A Player No More
* Something by Ace of Base - The Sign / All That She Wants / Don't Turn Around
* Something by Brian McKnight - Crazy Love / Anytime / Back at One
* Something by Janet Jackson - Love Will Never Do / That's The Way Love Goes / If
* Something by Usher - You Make Me Wanna / My Way / Nice and Slow
* Something by Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, or Toni Braxton
|
I will have to disagree with you on the Cranberries front. Linger was from their first album, and it's what made them huge here in the states.
I too cannot believe the appalling lack of NKOTB, BIIM, and where's Bobby Brown? I realize we have some BBD, but where's the love for Bobby? What about Tony, Tone, Toni (or whatever order it was in)?

Looking back I have to echo everyone else... no Boys II Men?!? And nothing by Janet Jackson??? Her tours were one of the hottest tickets in the 90's. I also can't believe they didn't include Outkast. "Rosa Parks" was huge!!!
