I think the stuff about Tipper was intended completely humorously and Gore is only mentioned as that's what makes it a news story. Someone else's kid wouldn't be as likely to make the New York Times.
But I've never known anyone to have the recurring issues with marijuana that III has in terms of addiction. You know he's already been to rehab, right?

Um no, not really. She put herself on a pedestal as far as her parenting skills were concerned, which one shouldn't do unless one is prepared for a long and hard fall.
Then again, I know some of the girls have said they were closer to their dad than their mom, so who knows.
As far as the common drug being pot - I would say he's probably more addicted to just plain getting f'ed up on whatever's at hand than being actually physically addicted to pot. If the pics from his previous arrest are any indication, he had a food addiction in there as well.

I'm not a fan of the music censoring garbage, but I don't know if it was really placing her parenting on a pedestal. Actually, admitting that you needed labels to know what your kid was listening to advertises your weak parenting, if anything. But on some level, I get what you are saying.
But if we're going to judge her, she's still at a pretty good percentage in terms of quality of adult produced. And I say that not even particularly being a fan of the Gores.

Hate to break it to you, but an O.C. CHP in Crown Valley is luser and needed to fulfill a quota.
And to pull over a Prius, dude must have needed a money until he realized who he pulled over. Usually, they write that stuff off. But the O.C. CHiP... Oh well... The county needs money.

They write routinely off tickets for people driving 100 miles a hour?
ETA: I think I meant they routinely write off tickets. . .
Thanks for making sense of what was actually there.

As I understand it, CHiP officers "sit" on The San Diego Freeway to actually "catch" speeders at 2 AM in the morning.
I know they also sit on the 15 from San Diego to Corona. Once you hit the mountains, they cannot manuever as easily. But, when you get in the desert, they get you, like out in Bakersfield and Barstow. And the Nevada State Troopers sit at the state line at the sign with PreMadonna Maderia to catch racers.
All Californians know you don't speed in certain areas... The only thing is up thru LA, after Camp Pendleton and after the 405 split, you can't speed. Too much traffic.
You could speed after the round corner after San Clemente before Oceanside. And MAYBE every now and then on the 78 HWY. But you NEVER speed after the 52 HWY, or 163 turn off.
You could speed on the 805 thru the ghetto and barrios. But once you get past Otay Mesa, you don't speed anymore.
Then on the I-8, some days, you speed, but maybe not El Cajon or the Imperial Valley. On I-10, you can't speed. Too much traffic. The next one is I-40.
And it is plain dumb to speed on the beach side of the O.C. Maybe Victorville and Moreno Valley, Apple Valley areas. But they have better helicopters there.
Have you witnessed a "run for the border" on TV? And I was on the dayum I-10 when OJ flipped the EFF out in 1994. I was pissed

I think OJs in the only one I ever really watched.
There was a funny (to me at least) show on for about six episodes one year called It's like, You know* that has an episode about how low speed chases are the equivalent of snow days for California.
*I know this sounds like it would be some Valley Girl crap, but it was better than that. It had the dark haired guy from the Whit Stillman films, the actor who played Charlotte's Jewish husband on Sex and the City, and Jennifer Gray playing essentially herself post-nose job. I'm having deja vu or we've talked about this show before on GC.

I've done plenty of speeding on the 405, 10, 22, 101 and other freeways in L.A. Just not at 100 mph!

With all those prescription drugs, I'm wondering if he was making his way back from TJ when he got pulled over...

This narrows it down, LOL. You could have just said "the hot guy from the Whit Stillman films."

Blaming a parent for the drug problems of an adult child without knowing the whole story is actually pretty lame. I'm sure we all know kids whose parents were great -- but those kids ended up in drug problems.
This is especially prevalent among upper middle class kids who use recreationally in HS and college. Some kids just don't get the whole concept of moderation.

Kevin, you're not old enough to remember what a judgemental asshat Tipper was. May I also say that blaming a Prince song for your child's problems is pretty lame.

I'm definitely old enough to remember Tipper's little crusade against naughty words and the like. I'm not doubting her asshatedness. Her public stances though don't have much to do with her actual parenting skills. Further, her parenting skills are not really relevant (without more information) to the possible drug problems of an adult son.
I even hesitate to say the kid has a drug problem. For all we know, it could have been a one time indiscretion.

It wasn't.

This is the second time he was arrested on a marijuana possession charge. Police in Montgomery County, Md., pulled over Gore in December 2003 and noticed the smell of pot. Police were also tipped off by the open windows and sunroof despite the freezing temperature.

That's kind of what I mean about his pattern seeming weird to me. Even if he was messed-up, party-boy, drug-guy in high school and college, he ought to be over it by now if the common link is marijuana*. Maybe it's just that before now it was all he was caught with but he's had a physical dependency on something else the whole time. Who knows? I feel bad for any parents who have to deal with off-spring who keep messing up, and without any evidence that they've been protectors and enablers, I'd try not to think it's a reflection on them if three of four kids turned out well.
*I'm not pro-pot by any measure. It just seems like there's a lot of legalization commentary out there that doesn't match with Al III's issues.
