I have some Amelia Bedelia books at home. She's on my list.

You guys are giving some good suggestions. Thanks!

I just did a story time a few weeks ago, shame on me for not remembering any titles except for one...CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM, by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault. Perfect for young kids learning their ABC's. I don't remember reading this as a kid, so I don't know how popular it is. The kids loved it, and got all rowdy, they barely paid attention to the other stories.

Sorry, I can never take DTE seriously again after watching her doing the Chicken Noodle Soup dance. LMAO!

There is this book called "A To Zoo: Subject Access to Children's Books" by Carolyn and John Lima. It's like a big reference book (the size of a phone book) about recommendations for children's books. Check your library to see if they have one.

When I was a child, my mother read these to me, and I loved them so much, I've read them to my own children (ages 5 and 7) since they were babies. They love them, too--more than fairy tales and Dr. Seuss:

Who's In Rabbits House? by Verna Aardema and Leo Dillon

And these books by Ezra Jack Keats:

Dreams
Peter's Chair
Hi, Cat!
Whistle for Willie
The Snowy Day

I hope these are helpful to you.

I remember reading Ezra Jack Keats in elementary school. Thanks for the input. I am going to the library this evening and tomorrow to get books to peruse.

Really anything from the Little Golden Books, like Richard Scarry's Best Little World Ever or The Monster At The End Of This Book (the one with Grover) is a good option too.

Thanks again for your input! I read them a Little Bill book, a Dora book, Duck for President, and Queen on the Scene by Queen Latifah -- a great book, BTW.

I read many of your suggestions one day in Borders, including Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. Some other books that I read were Teammates by Tiki and Ronde Barber and Michael's Golden Rules by Deloris Jordan.
