I lost 45 pounds my freshman year and into that summer, and in not the most healthy of ways. I've kept that off pretty much, but also did gain the "desk job 10 pounds"

Yeah, I gained the Freshman 15 and then some. Lost most of it when I went home that summer...
Then had the yo yo dieting problem
Now I am older and a hell of a lot more wiser

I did. Main reasons being wanting to keep up my grades, having a car and doing anything sportslike (in high school I was on the swim team and varsity tennis team). Overall, I truly believe that cars are the biggest reason why people tend to be on the heavier side in the States, cos most people walk in Europe. I've never eaten fast food either.

You sound just like me. I gained 15+ lbs. freshman year. Lost it when I had mono. Gained it back, lost it, lost too much, gained the weight I wanted, and gained too much. Now I am about the same weight as I was senior year of high school which is good for my height.
In order to avoid the freshman 15 tell your cousin to stay active and to avoid alcohol and eating too much junk.

I lost weight my first year, too. It was a combination of not liking the yucky cafeteria food and having an anxiety disorder that upset my stomach, so I didn't eat a lot. I lived on Rice Krispies. Looking back, I know that I was waaaaaaaaay too skinny, but I didn't really fill out until I turned 20.

I started off at a commuter school...and yes, I gained weight my first three years...only went up one size and the was after about two and a half years.
I'm at my first year at a dorm school, and everyone I've seen since I'm home has told me it looks like I lost weight...which is good because I need to

Yes, and then some.
But then I discovered triathlons, and the weight came off then some. I weigh less now than I did in 8th grade. It's awesome. I'm planning on running my first marathon in March, Half-Ironman plans for the summer, and then next year will be my first Iron distance triathlon. I just took some time away from exercise freshman year, but now the workout bug is back with an attitude.

My body didn't develop until after my first year of college in addition to gaining weight. I went from barely a hundred pounds my senior year HS to almost 125 by my sophomore year.
I'd like to think that growing my boobs and ass had a lot to do with it. It was the Freshman 30 for me.

I lost about 70 lbs my freshman year. Lived on campus and walked everywhere. Also, began to understand my metabolism. Didnt eat all the time and figured out that I really didnt need to.
Stayed at about 160 till a few years ago then the weight slowly crept up to 185 (desk job). A year ago I made a concentrated effort to lose the weight. I am now down to 155. I'll drop another 5 lbs and then focus on strength training and cut back on the cardio.

I got mono my freshman year and lost 20 pounds. Not a fun way to lose weight.
By the end of college I'd gained all of that back, plus an extra 10 or 15 pounds, and now I weigh about 15 pounds more than that, but I'm working on it.

I agree with this 100%. I don't know if it's just a USA/Rest-of-World, thing though. I'd say it's more city vs suburban. It's a proven fact that people living in American suburbs are heavier than their counterparts in more urbanized areas, simply because city dwellers walk more often.

I gained the fresman 25, but lost it all that summer and then some (not really sure how, maybe just not eating the school's unhealthy food). Didn't gain any back until the I'm married and have a desk job 15 kicked in. Now working on taking it off and - somehow it's harder this time around...
