Random question: Did you gain the "freshman 15"?

We all have heard of it. Did YOU gain the freshman 15? What did you do to get rid of it? I personally LOST 15 pounds when I came to Kent because I hated the food. But alot of my friends gained it and STILL have it (we're college seniors). My younger cousin is going to college this fall, and she wants advice on avoiding this dreaded phenomenon.

No.

Don't be lazy and go and work out. Don't expect to drink 10 beers a night and stay the same weight, unless you do something about the extra intake. Of course, maybe girls have a harder time keeping it off. I don't know.

Nope... I also lost the freshman 15! :D I definitely got skinnier, but I think it was because I wasn't on drill team anymore, so I lost a lot of the muscle that I had. I didn't care though, because I went down 2 sizes. :p

I actually lost weight my Freshman. Wasn't really a good thing. :(

RedRoseSAI 11-23-2005 04:57 PM

No, but I did gain the "I'm out of college and now I have a desk job" 10.

I didn't really change sizes but I got a lot less toned. Since freshman year I've lost about 30 pounds though.

I gained more than the freshmen 15. But I gained my second and third year. And after being our for three years I have finally started to loose the wait again.

I guess getting a divorce and getting out of your comfort zone will make you do that.

My advice to freshmen. Don't be lazy workout you will do better in life!

I had bad grades. B/C of my first two years I think I ended up with about a 2.6. Now three yrs out of college making over 50K getting a $600/month raise in May.

I can only imagine how much better I would have done if I would have not gained the weight....b/c if I was working out I would have been more focused at school

Yes, I gained the "freshman 15" - mostly from eating late (past 11pm). Those late night runs to White Castle, eating pizza, etc. all in the name of "studying" added up. Lost most during the summer home though.

Now, like RedRoseSAI, I'm battling the "I sit on my butt for 8-10 hours a day at work" pounds :(

When I graduated from high school I barely weighed 100 pounds...I gained a couple pounds but didn't put on any real weight (40 pounds) until I was a senior and got married. I've lost about 35 of those pounds and wish I would have kept all my old clothes!!!

I didn't gain much the first year but gained a bit my soph/jr. year from living in the house, eating late, going out and not exercising as much as I should have.

I lost about 25 lbs after I graduated putting me about what I was when I was in high school.

I gained about 30 my freshman year. Went to Weight Watchers during the summer and lost 40. Gained 30 my sophomore year. Went to Weight Watchers during the summer and lost 35. Never went home for the summer again and it was all downhill from there...

"Working out" has become really common now but nobody did that when I was in school. Aerobics classes started to get common shortly after I graduated and then gyms started popping up everywhere. They did have an IM building with some workout stuff, but only the super jocks went there.

The food wasn't great, but the bad thing about it was that it wasn't healthy either. The first thing you encountered when you walked in the cafeteria was the desserts, while you waited in line for your entrees. There was a salad bar, but I don't think I ever saw a piece of fruit the entire time I was in school. Everything was high fat, deep fried, calorie laden. They didn't even offer skim milk. When there was nothing decent in the cafeteria, you used your meal card at the snack shop on campus and got nachos. Pizza's were $5 delivered.
