Congratulations to your friend and to Sigma Sigma Sigma. As I mentioned recently in another thread, a couple of Sigma Sigma Sigmas in letters are pictured in the three-page special article on UNC-Pembroke in the brand new 2005 edition of U. S. News & World Report's America's Best Colleges. So your friend should have some sisters who are in the limelight, so to speak.

Ex-Lurker, would you happen to know if that issue is available online?

Sistermadly, as far as I can tell the complete issue is only available in print or as a premium online edition -- meaning you have to pay.

Maybe someone else has better information about accessing the issue.

When I clicked my way through the magazine's site, I was able to find a reference to the article on UNC Pembroke, but the link only showed the text of the first page. To get the whole article, looks like you have to pay or else buy the print issue. Sorry.
The basic address is

http://www.usnews.com

and then you can click on the picture of the bright orange cover of the newest "Best Colleges" paperback. It has info about the free online edition and the premium online edition.

Are you close enough to her geographically to go to her Initiation? I think that would be so cool, to see a close friend be Initiated (who was a friend before the sorority came along).

Best part about this--- FREE BABYSITTING You can't charge a sister to keep her kid.

UNC P is definetly the place for non traditional sisters. My sorority sister's real sister was in the other group years ago.

I would give my left arm if I could be there to support her (even though I couldn't be in the room), but unfortunately I live 3000 miles away.

Exclamation This is FREAKING cool news!

I got an e-mail from my buddy today telling me that she's going to be profiled in an upcoming issue of Tri-Sigma's national magazine! And I had a hand in it!

See, after she got her bid, I sent an e-mail to Sigma Sigma Sigma's national HQ praising the women at UNC-Pembroke for taking such a progressive stance toward membership recruitment and accepting my friend as a new member. I basically sang all of my friend's praises, even mentioning that she was the first person to even mention sorority life to me W-A-Y back when we were in high school together. Little did I know that my little interfraternal pat on the back would result in such a fantastic outcome!

Someone from Sigma's HQ wrote back and thanked me for my letter, and today I got an e-mail from T. saying that HQ called their chapter president and asked how they might get in touch with T. because they wanted to profile her for the Triangle!

I'm not sure when the issue will come out, but what a fantastic honor for my friend. Thank you again Tri Sigma for making her dreams come true!

ETA: I have an image in my head of the photo she'll want to use: she'll be in a Tri-Sigma sweatshirt, her husband will be in a Phi Delt sweatshirt, and their daughters will be dressed in purple and/or clothes with sailboats all over them.

That is awesome! I'm impressed you took the time to email HQ to compliment the chapter! We should all do more of that!
