Ideal08, a good adjustment for glasses is worth it. When I started college, I had badly adjusted glasses and didn't speak up.
Almost 20 years later, I've got a keloid scar on the back of my ear.
I also understand your contact lens fears. When I was 16, my eye doctor put them in and I nearly jumped out of his chair.
Eventually, I got sick of wearing super-thick glasses (uncorrected vision is 20-200). So I started contacts. I used a lot of drops, but my eyes got used to them.

I recently had to start wearing glasses and I also pride myself about my complexion. I have tried to wear contacts and it is a reflex action that I can not put them in my eyes. I have considered Laser surgery but I am afraid of the risk. Have you thought about it? Do you know anyone who has gotten the procedure done?

Girl, please. You know insurance doesn't cover that, right? And $1,000 per eye?!?!? Nope, not me. This girl I'm working with is going to get it done. Her and her hubby are still discussing it, seeing as though it's a $2,000 expense.

It's cheaper here. I've heard it's about $650 an eye. These places are opping up all over town and it's kind of scary. Soon it'll be "you want fries with that?"

Ya know, I heard that with the surgery it is not a "cure" for a lifetime. It is only a temporary fix. I can't remember if it only "lasts" a few months or years, but it is not lifelong.

Is there a difference between the Lasik and the RF (something another) surgeries? If there is, I can't remember which one of the procedures the person was speaking about.

When I heard that above information I was like Hell naw. It's not worth it if it's NOT permanent.

I also have been wearing glasses for about 8 years now and don't have that problem, but like you, Ideal08, I don't need them everyday so I do without my glasses on some days.

Maybe the reason why I don't have the marks is b/c I use plastic frames - the frames that come without the nose pads. Probably that makes a difference.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 7 years old - and I have no marks. IMHO, there are two keys to avoiding them:

1) Make sure that your frames fit and are adusted properly. (They should not hurt or be at all uncomfortable.)

2) Get the lightest-weight plastic lenses available in your prescription.

Trust me - it makes a difference.

Ok, y'all are not going to believe this.

I open my check today, and there is all this paper in there. So I read the stuff. THESE BASTARDS HAVE CANCELLED OUR VISION (& DENTAL) INSURANCE!!! Now, can you EVEN believe that mess?? I always talk about the perks of being a contractor/consultant. This is one of the downfalls of the mess. I have NEVER worked for a company where my benefits were based on the use of said benefits by other employees. The letter said that based on the feedback study conducted (in which I did NOT participate, nor know anything about), no one used these benefits. WTF?! SO WHAT!!! If I want to pay for it and not use it, that's MY business!!! I mean, there has to be some type of compensation for this. And the amount of money that I am saving per pay is almost unseen. A whopping $13. Naw, something has to be done about this.

I don't have dental and or vision insurance, either, per se. Now, our union does provide us with "benefits", if you will.

Vision
We can go to a certain place and the union gives us a $50 stipend towards our frames. I think the same thing is pretty similar for the dental part. I know you can get your teeth cleaned for free.

I use the vision benefit, but I do the dental thingy for FREE...one of my Sorors I brought in is a Dentist. When she was a student, she came down here to do an internship at a local hospital. During those weeks, she lived with me. I knew I needed my remaining wisdom teeth removed. She took those bad boys out...NO CHARGE.

You have to use your RESOURCES! Never burn your bridges, you just may never know when

I had Laser surgery/Lasik about a year ago. It was the best thing I've ever done (outside of marrying my husband). I went from about 20/500 to 20/15 literally overnight. I paid about $1250, it was worth every penny. The surgery does last forever for distance vision, but, just like everyone else who has "naturally" good vision, people who have had laser surgery may need reading glasses as they get older--it has something to do with the elasticity of the eye muscles as we age.

This topic caught my eye ( ) right away!! Everyone in my house (me, mom, dad, 2 sisters) and my boyfriend (until now )wears glasses/contacts. My boyfriend had laser surgery about three months ago and he LOVES it!!! I am so envious of him !! Although it does seem like a big output of money, think about the money saved in the long run (new lenses every two/three years, new frames, contact lens solution, etc...) If I had the money I would go for it

P.S. You would definitely have to talk to your doctor just to make sure you're a good candidate, but I'm sure you already knew that
