I think it's alright to wear it.
I remember my mother worse a white dress to my cousin's wedding a few years ago. Well it was actually more cream than white, but it hade black trim and she work black shoes and carried a black bag with it.
It was fine. Besides, and I don't mean to be rude, no one is going to be looking at you...they're all going to be focusing on the bride (or how ugly the bridesmaids dresses are )

I think the dress you described would be fine. I would just stay away from wearing an all white dress.

That's exactly why you're not supposed to wear white to weddings. You don't want to look like you're trying to steal the bride's spotlight.

The important question is how would your friend, the bride, feel about you in white?? You don't want to offend her! With the black accents, it should be just fine, though.
Before my wedding, I made it known I wanted to be the only one in white!!! Came the wedding day and I really didn't care who was in white. What happened?? My wedding was 6 weeks after 9/11. Watching the towers fall from my office window, wondering if my sister-in-law-to-be had safely evacuated her office in time, that gave me a new perspective on what is important at a wedding.

Hannah, can you post a pic?
I also need some wedding dress help. I am going to my boyfriend's brother's wedding on July 3rd in Washington. The wedding is at 6:00 and the invitations say semiformal attire. Lately all the wedding I have gone to I have worn some kind of black cocktail type dress. I was hoping to get an opinion from someone who lives in Washington or on the West coast because I definitely don't want to stand out as the Southern girl who wore the wrong color dress. And yes, I know that everyone will be focusing on the bride and not me but since this is my first time meeting his family I want to make a good impression.

I tried finding a pic online but I couldn't...I considered drawing one in MS Paint (I am not kidding you) because I don't want to be the tacky wedding guest and I'm looking high and low for opinions!
And First and Finest - My friend is the groom, not the bride

Know anyone with a digital camera? I'm sure the dress will be fine but you should post a pic for us to see if you are really that worried about it.

Lil'Hannah-
I gotta stop the speed reading! Now that I *carefully* re-read your post, I'll chime in again: I think the black accents will make this an outfit that no bride would balk at!

I will pay good money to see your MS Paint rendition of the dress. Seriously, that is some good shit.
We have a wedding coming up that I think will be on the casual side and I want to wear this because I think it's the greatest thing EVER and it's inexpensive. This doesn't really show the top of the dress, which is just a simple white tank.

You want it sista, you got it!
ETA: You can't really tell in my artist's rendering, but the skirt is knee length and it's a full circle skirt sort of dealy.

That is awesome! I think you should make valkyrie pay up!
Seriously, I think that will be fine for a wedding. How about post some pics after the wedding so we can see how nice you looked?

alrighty, I need some help! I just told a guy friend I would go with him to a wedding this Sat. (April 23). 5:30 wedding in Raleigh. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking for. I have plenty of black dresses (strappless, shot sleeve, etc.) but I would like something new. The weather is suppose to be in the 70's during the day and 50's at night...I hate this weather!
Steer me in the right direction before I do a mad shopping trip Friday night!

Ok, so I have a wedding in a couple of weeks and here's my dilemma:
My sister's a bridesmaid, and she's wearing a demin skirt. I want to look cute, because you never know who I'll run into but don't want to upstage the bridal party. I'm not sure what the bride is wearing. Plus, I think it's in poor taste to not dress up for a wedding. The wedding is in a church, and the reception is in the social hall, so I'm guessing no alcohol.
What should I wear???
PS-I didn't get my own invitation to this wedding either, but I'm ok with that.

 dang, only in PA.
I would say wear dressy pants (like the kind of pants you could wear to work and then go to a club in and not look stupid) and a cute top. The only way you could not upstage the bridal party is sweats or pajamas.
