Dress for a Wedding

I need to find a dress for a wedding...

Hubby is in a wedding this summer and I need a new dress. These are the details I have on the wedding.

It is a Casual Elegant wedding at 7:00pm in New Orleans. I know some of it is contradictory so, help....

BTW, I wear a 6 or an 8...

Do you want something long or short?

ETA: How do you insert pictures?

chideltjen 04-20-2004 04:14 PM

I have no idea what casual elegant is... but i have been looking at this dress for a trip to hawaii this summer for nights out.

BTW, XOMichelle, the code for that image looks like this minus the spaces. Just open a picture in a new window and copy the link.

This would be super cute in pink (or black for that matter!) As a general rule, at Southern weddings it's nicer to wear at least to the knee or below. Especially for an evening wedding. Good luck finding something!

I can't get it to work :(

Check out Chadwick's for nice, inexpensive, southern-wedding-appropriate dresses....
:)

Those are both really cute dresses. I'll have to go try them on :)

Silver, thanks for the suggestion I'll go take a look...

My biggest concern is that usually a Southern Wedding that takes place at 7:00 pm is a formal wedding, and I don't want to be underdressed (or overdressed for that matter) :(

Brandi, I'm having the same issue. I have a bazillion weddings this summer and I don't want to wear the same dress over and over.

Is it still bad taste to wear a black dress to a wedding? What if it's a cute black dress? With pink detailing?

AOIIBrandi 04-27-2004 05:35 PM

Black is becoming more common. I gave some thought to it for this wedding, but realized that whatever dress I get black will automatically make it more formal. Since this is supposed to be "casual elegant" I nixed it.

BTW, I just found out I have to attend a wedding the week before too, so I probably will wear the same dress (none of the same people will be at the weddings....)

So I'm apparently going to a wedding with a friend of mine in two weeks...I've only been to three weddings in my life. One I was eight and wore a lovely dress that matched my mom's, one I was dating a groomsman and wore a cocktail-type black&white dress, and the other I was a bridesmaid. The wedding is in St. Cloud, Minnesota - WTF am I supposed to wear?

Bless dresses at southern weddings

Black dresses are becoming more common at southern weddings. However, depending on how traditional the town/place of wedding is, a black dress could be a major faux pas. I feel that a black dress with an accent color is a better choice, such as pink or white.

Also, black is more appropriate for night than day. If I were going to a daytime wedding I'd try to stay predominately colorful. Pink is a good choice.

chideltjen - I tried on the gap dress this weekend. Very, very cute but unfortunately I fall between the 6 & 8 (and I will not pay to have it altered...) so I will have to find something else <*sigh*>.

me, too!

I am also in need of a dress to wear - wedding is a day event over Memorial Day in San Antonio, Texas. Anyone have perspective on Texas wedding attire?

OK I know you're not supposed to wear white to weddings. I know this. But I found a cutesy poo dress to wear to my friend's wedding next month, and it's mostly white. There are thin black stripes and black trim on it, and I plan on carrying a black bag and wearing black shoes. I might even get a black shawl or something. So is this kosher?
