mr. honeychile & I have been engaged for 2 years, 2 months. We will make NO plans until our premarital counseling settles every one of our "issues"!
This is my second marriage, and I urge all you other future brides to consider counseling prior to getting involved with Bride Magazine etc! It surely can't hurt, and it WILL make your future marriage stronger!

What issues can there be before marriage? I thought everything was supposed to be generally fantastic at that point?

Zeta's make the best fiancees!!!! :-p Yes, I am engaged. We will be getting married on the beach October 2, 2004 We were originally planning an intimate wedding, but our small guest list turned into nearly 100. But, most of them won't come.
I've ordered my gown- Casablanca #1622 (it'll be in late April) and the bridesmaids' dresses- Bari Jay #709 (they're a burgundy sort of color). I'm making the invitations myself. We've put a deposit on the venue, food, DJ, cake, and flowers.
If you have access to military officers' and chiefs' clubs, I highly suggest using them as reception sites. They are FREE!!!! You just have to pay for them to prepare the food (roughly $2500 for us).
Using silk flowers instead of fresh ones cuts down on costs and makes for great keepsakes (of course my bouquet will be real, but the throw-away one will be silk).
I'm also making my own centerpieces!!! If anyone needs wedding ideas, go to www.theknot.com. The knotties are more than willing to share photos and ideas!
Whew, okay I'm done hijacking the thread. Sorry, I'm just so excited!!!

Ha Xylochick! Not only we are getting married in the same month but we have done exactly the same amount of work. I've been looking at reception sites too...I've narrowed it down to two places. I also have some ideas on flowers and cake as well as initial thoughts on all the rest.
Planning a wedding for 200+ is like this big monster taunting me but luckily I have a wonderful support system of my mom, aunt, and maid of honor to help me with the decisions and with the stress!

I think that's so smart. It's easy to get distracted about little things that mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, so I figure -- why bother?

I would definitely suggest getting a good wedding planner (a book, not a person). All of my friends who have hired fancy wedding consultants have been upset because they didn't get to do everything they wanted. I got mine for $15 at Barnes and Noble, and it's fantastic. We're going next week to look at the 2 places we're looking at for the ceremony and reception
And yes, TriDeltaGal, it's a lot of work. I know I'm going to end up waiting until at least June to make a lot of big decisions!

Suprisingly, I haven't used mine all that much. I used it to get a good timeline of what to do when, but I haven't touched it in a good 4 months. I have a drawer of my filing cabinet devoted to wedding stuff, but other than that, it's all in my head! So wierd for such an organization freak like me
My latest exciting news... my dress is in, and my invitations came yesterday!!! Six months and one day to go!!

I got engaged not this past Friday, but the one before. He didn't ask, we were talking about it and before we knew it had set a date. He's going to ask my father in May, and he's planning some big surprise revolving around my ring. What's so funny is that in everyday life, we're really romantic. (We went to a field to pick buttercups the other day, for example.) The decision to get married was finalized because we decided that being together would actually be cheaper than being apart, and since we loved each other and both wanted to be together all the time and have children soon, we might as well get married soon as opposed to waiting. We're going through a couples Bible study, premarital counseling, Financial Peace University, and working extra hours to save up.
I think planning the wedding together is important because it may bring up things about each other's personality that you haven't had to deal with yet, and probably wouldn't have to deal with until you made major decisions when you're married. Might as well go into marriage as prepared as you can be!

I'm engaged, and getting married this December. We got engaged a year ago last December, but planning long-distance has been difficult. The ball is rolling again, though, and at this point I've had time to finish paying off my dress. That was the first wedding thing I did. *laughs*

It's funny.
I am no where near being engaged, let alone have a bf but...
I have a wedding planner (my big sis), a possible place to have the wedding (my great grand works in event planning), a possible caterer (my 2nd cousin), a place to print and design my invites/announcements (myself and my current job), and a dj (too many to name).
I just need a groom.
