Are you currently engaged or feel that the question is just around the corner? What kind of things are you working on for the wedding and any good suggestions/hints/tips when preparing for the wedding?

I ask because my boyfriend has been talking about marriage lately. I have been looking at wedding magazines even before we were together, but I am really starting to look at them now.

YES! I am getting married, as a matter of fact. Next January. :)

Right now, we're picking colors, looking for a place for the ceremony and reception, and picking our bridesmaids and groomsmen. We're also etting my ring made.

I'm engaged, but we're remarkably chill about it. I think that one weekend we'll just wake up and say, "Hey, let's get married today" and then do it. It's amazing how much people freak out when I say that.

TKE209 and I have been talking and preplanning it for a good year now. I was supposed to get my ring sometime this fall, however, the college screwed him over and he said he won't be able to afford it....buuuuuuuuuuut that's what -he- said..I've never seen the paperwork of him getting "screwed over". Hmm... :p Plus he's taking 3 good payign jobs over the summer..sheehs..he really hides it well :rolleyes: :p

I'll tell you a good ole hint that we discovered early on. The decision making is not all my responsibility. We decide on everything together and compromise (even the colors...and who's who going to be whatever)!

My husband and I were engaged for about 2-1/2 years. We did a few things right away - setting the date not being among them! Someone actually told us we weren't "really" engaged because we hadn't set a date :rolleyes:

My biggest piece of advice is not to wait until the last minute. Good dates at good reception halls in many places get booked years in advance. Get your reception hall, ceremony location, and officiant lined up early on. Then, ask people to be in the wedding party. Then start getting into details like colors, flowers, etc.

It's also very easy to turn into Bridezilla. Don't stress if every single little detail isn't perfect... the important thing is that, at the end of the day, you're married.

Congratulations. :) It takes a while to plan a decent wedding (I helped my older sister plan hers a couple years back), so you'd better get going ASAP!

I, personally, am nowhere close to sporting a diamond...I've been asked 3 times but I'm commitment phobic so maybe the 4th time's a charm! :D

I am not engaged. And I love it.

I'm engaged, and we're getting married April 2, 2005. Basically all we've done is set the date and pick out who is in the wedding. I've found a dress I want and bridesmaid dresses, but we haven't done anything else. We need to get on that!

But...my good friend is getting married in June. My piece of advice from watching her plan her wedding, is get your maid of honour to help you. That's what she's there for. Make sure your maid of honour is some you love and care about and that you know you can count on her. My friend's maid of honour started out not caring about her wdding and not helping out when my friend needed it the most. I ended up helping her a lot of the time until she finally sat down with her maid of honour and had a good long talk with her.
Now I don't mind helping out and I was happy to do so, but your maid of honour needs to be there for you.

So pick the girl you can count on, because when you need her (and you will need her) she'll be there for you.

ahh, i should have probably put this in the break-up thread but thr best way to break-up with me is to start mentioning words/phrases like marriage, life-long committment, settling down, tired of the game, children, joint accounts etc.

I'm engaged... September 17,2004! Almost exactly 6 months to go!

We took a break from the planning for a few months after we got the big stuff done (we got engaged last July), but now that it's getting closer, we're lining up all the little things. I'm so excited... I can't wait to be his wife!

Damn girl, do you realize you have been proposed to more times than the number of sexual partners that the average GC girl would confess to ever having been with? :p

That's exactly how we are doing it. Could be next week, could be next month. Who knows!
