If you get too many Mods in one Forum who are buddy-buddy, then you have a whole group of people that get away with whatever, and other people that get every other post/thread deleted/locked.
I do understand what you're saying here. I think the mods can still be buddy buddy (that would be difficult not to have that if they're from the same org) but should be able to agree to disagree. Maybe the mod who has seniority in the org, has been on GC longer, etc. should make the final call, but I do get what you're saying. Even with my GC friends, we don't always agree on what should and shouldn't be deleted.

All of the D9 threads are well moderated. I think that threads should be edited and not deleted entirely unless absolutely necessary. I would like to see the search modified to include more options, maybe use the google site search. Other than that, GC is great.

I'd appreciate it if you will take your bout to PM. Check the vulgarity at the door. If you want to misspell the curse word, do that. IF YOU CANNOT, LEAVE!

2. My style of moderation would be like this: In a nutshell, discussions and debates are welcomed, flames are not.

I will not hesitate to delete a post that is a personal attack or lock a thread that degenerates into a meaningless flame war. The problem I have with discussion boards in general is that people oftentimes don't know how to debate facts without trying to sidetrack folk into baiting them to engage in an all-out flame war. I have learned that this is their way of saying they lost the debate or that their argument is indeed weak. It is also the reason why I choose not to engage in discussion with certain GCers. That is why I am not too wild about posting in the Greek Life forum, but ironically the ones who start the flame wars with me aren't the NIC/NPC folk, but the NPHC members. Actually, ever since I been on GC (6 years), I have never had so much as one beef with any non-NPHC member. Go figure...

Anyhow, flagrant and repeated trolls and flamers I would turn over to the administrator to be banned for being a nuisance. I'm too old for a lot of silly mess.

In a nutshell, my "platform" would be: "You will discuss and debate constructively by debating the facts or opinions derived thereof or you will not discuss here at all".

3. *see next post for "my" response...*

HEAR, HEAR!!

You have essentially said what I would have said about question #3. Couldn't have said it better myself. Folk need to get a thicker skin when on discussion boards. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is entitled to one, member or not. It is a small price to pay for affiliating with a high profile organization.

Fame costs.

3. What would you implement?
1. Since I don't wander too far from home...this one. (I would also like to see a Psi Chi forum for Psychology)

2. My style would emphasize certain basics like: being able to agree to disagree, mutual respect, freedom of speech. This pretty much is what the style is anyway. I would make people feel more welcome to express themselves without retaliation, though. (I know some people's comments warrant strong responses, but to be like that just because I don't like the person is just power-trippin.) There should be a way to get past the past.
I would also make sure people better understood the do's and don'ts. I often see rules broken. I see repeat threads in various forums, for example. So, either I'm unclear of what the rules are, or I'm left to conclude that rules are only enforced on those who aren't in the inner circle.

3. I wouldn't implement anything new. I would just do things a little differently. With the exception of threads that get very long (like the HC threads), I wouldn't close threads unless: people are talking about things they already know they shouldn't be talking about (re: PoW & common sense); people are being disrespectful; or if people are spreading lies, rumors, or other unsubstantiated "facts". If people think a thread topic is stupid, or not worth talking about, they just don't need to respond to it.
I also think the threads where people introduce themselves should be on the top of the forum under the rules since it's pretty much expected before you post.

Disclaimer: I feel I have to include this, unfortunately. This post is not intended to blast anyone. Please do not PM me and ask if I was talking about anyone specifically. The mods asked for feedback. That is the sole purpose of this post.
