Sigma Kappa has never initiated a man nor did a man help with our founding.

As far as official male Pi Beta Phi initiates--no...

However, one time at chapter during either policy reading (or maybe it was just a random letter from nationals) we got a warning about initiating men into the chapter. Evidently, at one time there was an issue with chapters choosing sweethearts and initiating them... they were called "Arrowmen"... LOL... now we have an ongoing joke; we call our groupies "Arrowmen".

Sort of related, well not really.

I can rememebr a consultant coming to visit our chapter and asking him what his most bizarre 'on the road' story was and he told me about visiting a chapter in North Texas. He told us of going downstais in the main room to observe ritual. Just as they were getting ready to start, one of the brothers brings down the housemom and sits her down. The consultant was all WTF?? And their explination was that, "Shes always watched it."

That chapter is now closed for about 4,212 reasons.

Techinally. she wasnt ever a member, just observed the rit. She did not particpate in oaths and such things. It doesnt bother me too much. I of course, would prefer that it never happend but I have to be realistic that with over 225,000 initiates a g/f, sister, mother, wife or whatever had to stumble across some info. It doesnt cheapen my expeience at all. Because as we all know, reading or watching the ceremony is dramatically different from experiencing it.

I dont think there have ever to my knowledge been any official female initiates. I'd be kinda wierd. Think of being at your rit, all decked out, ready to go and their being peeps of the opposite sex there. Its wierd. For me, its such a 'guy' time, I couldnt imagine a girl there.

[/quasi-related hijak]

(PS: as I type this, Piano Man (Our Chapter Song) comes on. Wierd and random.)

according to the history book, no man was ever initiated into phi mu. it explained that it was customary in that time period to offer honorary membership to men. they received a pin, but were not initiated thru ritual. there was a period during which there were lots of men being offered this honor, so it was discontinued. i will have to check the date tho.
