I recently finished summer school of 2 classes. I had to buy four books total for about $125 which wasn't too bad. Only sad thing was I only received $39 for selling all those books! Sheesh. I don't like the beginning of the school year because the school leaks so much of your funds, especially now with the whole fee increase and all. Ugh.

My books/supplies were about $750 last semester!

What really gets me though, is that in my nursing curriculum, they "strongly encourage" you to keep your books throughout the program as a reference aide. *coughBULLISHTcough* So this pretty much means that when you go to the bookstore, a used book is a rare jewel to find. On the rare occasion that I have taken some of my books to buy-back...I find that they update editions so often due to new medical information, so usually they aren't worth anything (NEW BOOKS!!!!!).

It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

Thank goodness for my friends! I am borrowing 3 of my 4 books for this semester, so the other book will only cost about $100.

Talked to our son last night and he reported that when all of his books are finally available, they will be over $500 -- $300 of which are for a single course.

PET PEEVE!

Who the heck to the profs think they have in their classes. A bunch of little rich kids?

When I taught a college course, we didn't use a book. The course curriculum came from my experience and participation in class of working professional guests who were kind enough to share their time and knowledge.

I know that's not always possible -- but JEEZ, college is expensive enough without getting hammered by egocentric professors who either use their own books or their friends.

OK, now I'm off on a tangent with that last sentence. Sorry.

End of rant.

DA, you have distguished yourself even more now.

I paid $120 for one of my texts - a used Macro book. Now granted, my professors do have a bunch of spoiled little rich kids in their classes, but still - 60% of my book costs were for 3 classes. One of my classes was supposed to be taught almost entirely using web-based material - we only had to drop $90 on books.

If you're a girl you could always strip and make some extra money on the side for books.
