I have been tested twice. The fist test was a requirement before marriage (married in another country) and the second test was taken about six months ago when I purchased life insurance coverage. I am NEGATIVE!!!!
Peace

Yeah I'd take the test, if they took it with me. (Or let me see their recent results.)

If someone asked me to be tested: Yes, I'd take the test, and not be offended.
I was tested in my early 20s, and it was negative. I was celibate for about 5 years, so I wasn't tested every year. When I got married, I had to have blood tests (although HIV was optional) - MisterMadly and I both opted to take the tests.
As someone who has a close relative who is HIV+, taking the test is crucial - the sooner you know, the sooner you can start treatment that will prolong your life.

I'd be glad that I was with a sexually mature and responsible partner. Even if an HIV test comes back negative, it doesn't mean that other STDs aren't a risk.
If you're worried about condoms breaking, learn to use them properly. Better yet, be the one to put them on him - that way you'll know for sure that it was put on right!

I would definitely take it hands down....my man LaFonz didn't have to ask.........
Actually, all jokes aside I have take 3 tests and come out clean everytime. Yes three, the first one was for a physical, and the last two were for life insurance increases. Ya know each time you increase your life insurance policy they give you a mandatory HIV test. Cuz I don't want my family banging on nobotties door asking for donations when I pass on to GLO-ray! I thank God for my negative tests, but I would expect my man not to give me a problem, and I really don't feel I should have to ask him either.

My (only) partner and I both had ours done when I became pregnant. That could be considered alittle to late but i figure better late than never.
If I had more than one partner i would definitely request a new test to be taken. Although a recent test may suffice for some. HIV has an incubation period that can last as long as 10 years. If your partner has engaged in risky business right before you got together but after his most recent test....there is no way of knowing unless a new test is adminstered.

I was tested when I was pregnant with my son, and my husband was tested to do an intern.

I'd whip my paper out quick. I don't think it's wrong at all to ask someone to be tested. I know my status and have a copy of my lab results confirming it.

I don't have a problem with it. It's been about a year since I've been tested for an insurance policy and since I haven't been with anyone I know that I am free.

Always the odd one out
This is sort of hard for me to admit, but y'all my peeps, so ok.
I seem to be the only GCer who hasn't been tested and doesn't want to be. I was JUST talking about this with my friend at home last week. THEN, BET runs all them dang on commercials about being tested. My friend was like, "These are hints, Monique." I was like, whatever. I just wouldn't want to know, and I know that sounds crazy, but I wouldn't. I honestly feel like it's a death sentence. And I also think it gets worse once you find out. I feel like if I were positive as soon as I found out, my health would start to decline. These are all of my irrational fears, right? I also would not be able to tell my sister. The isht just makes me uncomfortable, to tell you the truth.
BUT, all that aside, I have decided to get tested. I'll get it done at my next exam. I still really don't want to, but after reading this thread, I will. I don't want to be irresponsible.
In answer to the question, I think it's a reasonable request and if I were asked by a partner to take the test, I'd do it, but we'd do it together.

Are there any instances where you would NOT take the test?
Is anyone willing to share if he or she HAS taken the test?
I thought about this while visiting the following DST thread...

I have no problem taking a HIV test. I took a test three weeks ago for my Insurance Company and I came out negative.

What's the name of your insurance company? OthelloStreet, who is your insurance with?
I'm curious. I didn't know insurance providers were making its clients test for HIV. Hmmmmm, I wonder if my provider will insist on this?

Maybe they do it because they would view it as a pre-existing condition?
