My aunt and cousin live in a trailer and they're pretty "white trash." My soon-to-be-brother-in-law is a huge redneck, but I won't throw a fit if you want to have a hick social. Are white trash bashes out of the question too? Who wants to be treated like they're barefoot and pregnant?
I think it's stupid to take something like a party so seriously. If the goal was to be uplifting, why have a party to begin with when there are no doubt people around who will get wasted and act like idiots anyway. I think being dressed like a ho jokingly is way better than being treated like a ho seriously. I personally don't go to socials dressed like a 'ho'. Girls I know that do just wear fishnets and leather dresses or whatnot. Other than that it's a regular social.
A group of black students threw a "Playas Ball" recently. People dressed up like pimps and all kinds of crazy ho type stuff, and they had judges there to pick the most pimped out men and women. I think the campus enjoyed the humor in it.

Whoa! Sorry I am being so insensitive to all the pimps and hos out there! What was I thinking?!
I really just don't get it. Obviously pledge doesn't find this party offensive and I'm positive there are other people out there who don't find it offensive.
Associating a sorority with prostitution? Yea, I'm sure the rumor would be started the next day, "Omigosh did you see XYZ out there in the fishnets and red lipstick last night?! They must be really SLUTTY!"
I've had many friends dress up as "hos" for halloween, even going so far as to get a group together with a male friend to be the "pimp," and I assure you there were no rumors or assumptions made that this was how they acterd in everyday life.
My point is it's a THEME, it's FUN, and I'm not sure how old you people are but it seems someone of college age wouldn't have so huge a problem with being a little "foolish" once in awhile.
Man I don't know about these forums these days.

Well, I guess I need to take the blame for this one by blatantly saying using the P&H theme was not a good idea.
On the other hand, the original question was a 'reverse' P&H theme party. Pledge, could you please explain that? Do you mean the guys dress like prostitutes or did you mean that everyone should act like ladies and gentlemen? If you meant the latter, why not call it a Lords & Ladies Party - where every dresses up, eats classy finger food and everyone drinks sparkling water/grape juice out of champagne glasses. Very classy....and a great precedent to set.

I don't have a problem with looking foolish. I have a problem with looking trashy. I have a problem with my sisters looking trashy. I have a problem with my sorority being associated with anything trashy. I'm not saying that people will assume that sororities that have these kinds of parties are running a brothel. But lots of people WILL look at the sorority's choices and think, "Hmmm, that was in bad taste."
Yes, we all joined sororities and fraternities to have fun. But first and foremost, we should be ladies and gentlemen, we should be scholars, and we should be setting an example to the rest of the community. And believe me, you CAN be all that and still have a lot of fun!
Again I ask, there are so many other fun themes out there. Why do you have to pick *this* one?

It's interesting that you mention "trashy" because it's so subjective. And I'm sure it depends very much on where you are. A pimps and hoes mixer is probably frowned upon more in the South than it is in the North, I would bet. I don't think most of the people I know up here would consider a pimps and hoes mixer too trashy. I know that personally, I wouldn't consider that kind of party any trashier than, say, an 80s-themed party (talk about tacky!). And most of the parties I've been to, both Greek and non-Greek, are trashy enough without calling it a "pimps and hoes" party -- the girls still wear skimpy clothes and some people get drunk and do things they will later regret. I don't think that anti-Greek students will look on sororities as especially trashy for having a prostitute-themed mixer when they already assume that we're sluts to begin with.
I know that my sorority does generally try to avoid association with things like this, but every once in a while it's okay to let your hair down and just have fun. We're college students, and nobody expects us to be models of decorum. Although our groups are based on certain ideals, do you think our founders NEVER did anything that made them look silly, foolish, or occasionally even trashy? They were just as human as we are.
Racially insensitive -- yes, that is a legitimate reason to avoid the pimps & hoes-type parties. But trashy? It's such a subjective term. If we truly want to avoid looking trashy, why even throw mixers at all? Instead, we can sit at home doing philanthropy projects and knitting!
