How to throw a reverse"Pimps and Hos" mixer?
My sorority is having a reverse Pimps and Hos party. I don't know what the whole party should consist of as far as games, etc. Help!!

Okay, I have to tell on myself, when I first read your post I thought, "wow, how nice, a REVERSE pimps and hos party...that must mean they're having a LADIES and GENTLEMEN party, how lovely!" That's it, I'm officially turning into my mother. violets |
My first suggestion is to get rid of the P&H designation. It's offensive on many levels and shows a lack of cultural & racial tolerance.

Couldn't agree more!
I definitely agree that these kind of themes need to be eliminated from our socials. Right along with the Pimps and Hos-- the "Anything for a Dollar" mixer where attendees use monopoly money for "favors".
I know its all fun and games, but having themes like this does not look favorable upon the organizations involved. And more importantly, for the young women out there, do you really want to be objectified in this way? You will be treated as you allow people to treat you-- and I would assume that "ho" or "pimp" is not how you would want to be treated on a date or in the corporate world! |

It's all about PERCEPTION. It doesn't matter if your sorority is multicultural/racial, the perception will be that you are intolerant. Trust me on this one. |
It only shows racial intolerance if all the pimps have afros. Do whatever party you want.

On the same note of getting rid of pimps and hos and "anything for a buck"......could we get rid of trailer park/white trash mixers too?
Not that it really has anything to do with the subject of the thread, but I just wanted to throw that in... |
Just because your sorority is Multiracial, doesn't exclude the fact that it can't be seen by some as culturally and racially intolerant. I just watched American Pimp the other day and every pimp featured was African American(unless as OP said, if your "pimps" don't wear afro wigs). But I am not posting to argue racial/cultural inferences.
My point is WHY WOULD A SORORITY WANT TO ASSOCIATE THEIR NAME, LETTERS, REPUTATION WITH "PIMPS AND HO'S"? No matter how lighthearted you try to make it, Pimps and Hos still have the same derogatory meaning, especially towards women. You can't pour syrup on sh*t and call them pancakes. Same applies to Pimps and Hos mixer. |

sad
WOW! It's really sad how 'PC' everything has to be. I can't imagine anyone i know looking down on a group cause they had any of these parties. They'd be looking for an invite! Why does everyone have to rain on her parade like this? I don't mean to be rude but geez.... it's college for crying out loud...

The way I see it, *I* don't want to be associated with prostitution. I don't want *my sisters* to be associated with prostitution. I sure as heck don't want *my sorority's name* within 100 feet of anything pertaining to prostitution! Our founders would be rolling over in their graves, bless their hearts. There are so many other fun options out there for mixers, that aren't demeaning, insensitive and trashy. Why don't you look into other themes and bypass the issue completely? |
