They remind me of Minnie Mouse. I liked her just never wanted to look like her.

I used to believe that absolutely no white, except a shirt or sweater, should be worn after Labor Day. That is mainly due to the fact that I was born and raised in Philadelphia. If you have on some white boots in October, people are going to look at you crazy and some of them will actually laugh in your face.

Now, the generally accepted rule is that in warmer climates, white is acceptable after labor day. I have tried to adapt my views on the subject, but Labor Day is Monday, so we'll see if I where white between then and Memorial Day.

I am still against white shoes. I have never really liked them and, except for certain occasions, like weddings or debuntante balls, I do not think that they should ever be worn. The last time I wore white shoes was at my debutante ball and I couldn't get them suckers off fast enough.

i used to feel the same way about white shoes - i had to wear them for my high school graduation and i couldn't get out of them soon enough. Now i have these white sandals that I love but I still think about it before I wear them.
Does anyone know the specific reason why people are not to wear white after Labor Day?

classy, i'm with you all the way. I was born and raised in Philly too and live here now, and the thought of wearing white pumps, pants or suits just gives me the ibby jibbies. my mother taught me no white after labor day and i don't care what kathy ireland (on that commercial) says... white is not fashionably right after labor day.

The way that it was explained to me was because of the snow. While I understand that it doesn't roll around til November usually (in Cleveland), I guess it's the way to get prepared. It just looks stupid, white boots or shoes in the snow. Now, for warmer climates, I'm not sure why.

There was no question in my family, you didn't wear white after Labor Day or before Easter. You would get clowned. And you know it's worse when it's your pham. Now, I *hardly* wear it. I am, however, looking for some new white shoes. Mine are not cute, and were bought in an emergency. I mean, don't get it twisted, they aren't UGLY, just not cute enough to hang out with the rest of my shoes, lol.

thanks. I had been wondering about that for a while. I wonder if it's the same reason down here in Atlanta or if it was adopted because it was proper. It snows for about half a day, and then the rest is slush and ice.

Cream is never out of fashion.

I thought no white before Memorial Day weekend unless you are a bride or a child. I might be wrong.

I dunno, Cream.

What I do know is that as a child on Easter Sunday morning, the white shoes, white bobby (lacey) socks, white Easter Bonnet (hat), and white gloves came out.

Maybe it was just me.

Easter is usually the kick off for white and Labor Day is the kick-out.

Sandals too??

I was having this conversation with two of my very good friends the other day, and they were telling me that along with NO WHITE after Labor day, NO SANDALS either.

Let me just say that September 3rd in minneapolis, the weather was in the high 80's. I couldn't wait to take those shoes off....it reminded me of the first week of grade school when my mom dressed me in cordoroy the first week of school....in August...

So what do you all think about the NO SANDALS policy??

Soror, I'm in SoCal. I don't agree with the no-sandals policy. In fact, I was wearing some teal Kate Spade sandals in January, when it was over 80 degrees out.
Besides, I just got these cool hot pink thong sandals at Off Fifth Saks Fifth Avenue for something like 90 percent off retail. They are going to be worn.
