If credit cards aren't a temptation, it's a great thing to do.
I put EVERYthing on my AMEX Blue Cash card, including my grad school tuition, books, groceries, car insurance, medical fees, gas...literally anything that can be paid with a credit card. I even used the card to buy a car that I had the cash to pay (and just paid it off all at once). If my mortgage company would let me do it, I would put my house payment on there too.
My annual cycle ends in November and I almost broke $1,000 cash back last year!
