I'll have to catch the re-run. I forgot all about it since I was too busy watching The Housewives of New Jersey Reunion Part I - the show was off the chain hilarious. I was thoroughly entertained...can't wait for Part II.

This link will suffice until you get to watch it: http://www.bet.com/OnTV/BETShows/mym...ce/default.htm

I love BET for its history, the good shows it still aires, and its faults. I have no complaints just as I don't for any other network that has good and bad.

Oh uh. The Hip hop elitist are running to the defense. LOL

My opinion rap is just one form of how hip hop is expressed. That's if you truly believe Hip Hop is a culture.

In its simplest form putting a gun in my hand doesn't make me a soldier. Its what I do with the gun that defines if I'm a soldier, police officer, hunter, or criminal. We are right in separating, but when we separate we need to separate based on the content coming out of the mouth, not the way they expresses himself.

Both the content coming out of their mouths and the way they express themselves. They are related.

I understand, I just disagree.

And maybe it is the term I used that causes the disagreement.

Most music is song, but there is a clear significant difference between what is considered Pop, Country, R&B, Gospel.

I sometimes think that when somebody raps, we automatically need to either associate or disassociate them with hip hop, mainly because hip hop was the first to use that art form for expression. I believe for Hip hop to grow it needs to recognize that rapping has gone beyond just being hip hop, and has just become a form of expression. When we get to that, we don't have to get caught up in trying to caught up in arguments about Soulja Boy being the greatest rapper or what not and mixing them with what hip hop is.

I think we all realize that. Everyone falls into categories (gangsta rap, mc, etc.) and they are in those categories for a reason. Only a select few can really be called true hip hop artists. How much creativity did it take to create Pretty Boy Swag? If thats being a hip hop ELitist... I'll be that. Lupe Fiasco's "Dumb It Down" said it best...

There's no argument. Not even Soulja Boy himself would pretend he's more than a decently creative mind and money maker.

I don't see how it's so difficult for people to grasp the hierarchy that some of us make. All genres have distinctions. Country artists have their hierarchy of country music. There are country music artists like Taylor Swift who some would consider the "Soulja Boy of country music." That doesn't stop country music from growing. In fact, having the different types of country music is arguably one sign of growth (or going downhill, depending on who you ask).

They were both on My Mic Sounds Nice. I consider them lyricists who are a step below Nikki D, et al but a step above those...other rappers.

"My name is Yo Yo, I'm not a ho. I like to flow so swift it's got to be a gift." Insert angry ass Ice Cube. LOL. He ain't angry no mo!!!

Is there a site online to watch the show?

What do you guys think about independent MC/Rappers and where can you find/listen to them? I feel that in the the realm of rock/alternative music the most talented artists seem to be the ones without the major label record deal and releasing music on their own... can the same be said in realm of hip-hop?

It definitely can. They get the creative independence that most artists on major record labels have to put in work to gain.
