If you're from the campus I suspect you're from, I know "chalking" isn't allowed. A fraternity tried to do it a year or so ago, and I think they got in trouble with administration...
Being a member/founder of the newest organization on campus, we were able to initiate a pledge class of 10 girls during the Fall semester, and 8 in the winter semester. We started out with 6 founders, and in a year grew to a chapter of 24.
Obviously, I can't give away all the tricks up our sleeves lol, but I do recommend enforcing a dress code - first impressions count, and it's amazing how much an effect they have on the rush. It doesn't mean people have to show up to rush events decked out head to toe in Chanel - it just means they should make an effort to be a little more polished. The dress code should also include a smile!
I also encourage not speaking ill of other organizations, male or female. We actually had, this past year, a rush who attended other organizations rush events, came to ours and told a few of our girls, "some girls at XYZ said ______________ (negative comments) about your organization...". I basically turned to her and said, "Well, just goes to show how strong a sisterhood is if they need to put down other organizations. I'll let you make your own decisions about us and the other organization..." It's really unfortunate that some organizations feel the need to put down other sororities - be the classier persons, and don't say ANYTHING negative about other organizations. It's in my organization's rush policy that our sisters are not to speak ill of any other organizations - male or female. I recommend enforcing it - as president, I certainly do with my girls.
If you want to meet in person and chat for a bit when school starts again, let me know and we can go for coffee! Good luck this fall!
