Correction, she did NOT help ASA get started - she assisted in bringing together ASA with local chapters to facilitate our reorganization after the sorority had already existed for almost 15 years. While she did serve as national president for a time, she is not a founder in any way shape or form.

I remember that article from the Trident! I'll have to look for it next time I go home.
As a colony, we were told it was Tri Delta, no hyphen. As an undergrad, one day I got pretty bored while working in the writing lab and decided to investigate why there would be no hyphen in the word. (Hey, it was a slow day, I had 2 hours to kill and the director was always eager to get into grammar debates.) Grammatically, the hyphen has no concreate rule to it. It was created for print use. Generally, it is used to join compound words or to split up a word that appears at the end of the line. Since it would be inappropriate spelling wise to write TriDelta it would also be inappropriate to write Tri-Delta. Since Tri Delta is not one word, there is also no reason to place a hyphen if the word occurred at the end of line.
In the end, I think it really came down to the point that tri deezy made, Sarah Ida Shaw didn't hyphenate the word, so we don't either.

Its neither NATIONAL or INTERNATIONAL, its EXECUTIVE OFFICE. This is directly from our field consultant. Its also Tri Delta, Delt is not preferred. Tri Delta(s) or Deltas is correct.
Personally, Tri Delta was founded almost 30 years before Delta Sigma Theta & therefore, I believe we have the right to be called Deltas as well.

No one said you didn't have the right. The previous poster said her chapter doesn't use the nickname.

This is a nonissue since people know what the common nicknames are and can tell from the context which sorority is being referenced.

I agree DrPhil, on our campus we have people call us Tri Deltas & Deltas & you can tell when someone is referring to Tri Delta & Delta Sigma Theta.

My NME made it very clear to me to never use Tri Delt, Tri-Delt or Tri-Delta in writing. She said that we should use Tri Delta or Delta Delta Delta.
Also, a hyphen should never be used because it suggests a separation between the 'tri' and the 'delta'.
Just her two cents!
