Tri Delta VS Tri-Delt

At my chapter we were always told that the proper "nickname" was Tri Delta, no Tri-Delta, no Tri-Delt. I would always aruge with my friend who goes to FSU cause he would call me a Delt or a Tri-Delt.

Then I was looking at this.

if you scroll down to the Delta Delta Delta one, they say Tri-Delt.

So which is it?

In my chapter we always said Tri-Delta. However, one of my sisters visited our Dartmouth chapter and told us they say Tri-Delt. I wonder if Nationals has ever come up with an official position on this.

On the national website Tri Delta is always used. However, nicknames which are slightly different can be seen across the country.http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...inkpansies.jpg

/pardon the crash

I think this is a campus thing, like Alpha Xi and Fuzzie. When I was in school, everyone called the Ohio chapters Tri Delt. I now always hear Tri Delta in the same chapters that used a different nickname 20 years ago.

I think they prefer "Tri Delta" and probably prefer "National" to Nationals. ;)

My Tri Delta BFF also once said that there is no "-" in Tri Delta. ;)

A few years ago, our national pres, Sarah Coons Lindsay wrote an article about it for President's Message in the Trident. She said that the official stand on it is that it's "Tri Delta." This was probably 2004 or 2005.

Tri Delt is considered slang in my chapter we also dont use the word Delt because that is the Delta Tau Delta nickname. Tri Delta is the correct nickname and yes there is no "-" also we may use Deltas but only in our house because we dont want to offend the wonderful ladies of Delta Sigma Theta who are nationally known as Deltas.

Tri Delta would be "International", as they have 2 collegiate chapters in the land of the maple leaf, Canada: U of Toronto and U of Ottawa.

I would have always thought we took a position similar to that of Tri Sigma and it sounds like we do.

The girls at my school said they prefer "Tri Delta" because it's "Delta Delta Delta" and not "Delt Delt Delt"

Corrections on my post

Thank you for informing me ladies! I'll be sure to tell all my sisters that they taught me incorrectly and have been using/writing these terms incorrectly for all these years.

Thanks CutiePie too! I know this but in my chapter we always referred to them as "Nationals" despite the fact that we are an International organization. Kind of like a slang I imagine; hey we were college girls.

I guess they just don't cover everything during the Ritual, huh?!

why is everyone so anti-hyphen? The hyphen is going to go shoot up and throw itself off a building if everyone keeps dissing it.

tri deezy 01-04-2009 02:07 AM

Sarah Ida Shaw didn't use a hyphen. I suppose she would know what's right:)

P.s.- Did you guys know that Sarah Ida Shaw help ASA get started when she was married (Ida Shaw Martin)?
