Forget race. Join a dance team or something. Any fraternity is going to want workers.

This would be great in a perfect world, but not everyone that wants to be us wanted to be us wanted to be greek for the service aspect at first. Some people's first contact with greek was at a stepshow or yard show. I think it's ok. Just as long as when he gets to school he learns to appreciate that greeklife is a little more diverse than stepping.

Depending on your particular institution, there may be Latin@ greek organizations that have many of the same social aspects of NPHC fraternities (stepping, strolling, elaborate probates, etc.). So you could very well have the social aspects that you want, and still preserve and celebrate your culture.

With that said, remember that the NPHC is HISTORICALLY Black Fraternities and Sororities. If you're attending an HBCU, then there may not be very many options for greeklife, and your organizations will hopefully be more accommodating. I attend Florida State (a PWI) and I had no trouble expressing interest, pledging, and participating as an active member of my NPHC fraternity without being black. Everyone is different, and it is certainly wise to research all of the available fraternities before you express an interest (NPHC, MGC, IFC, etc.).

Sorry for the long post, but these topics are fun to comment on.

I'm sure this wasn't your intention, but just to clarify: Joining a Latino/NALFO organization shouldn't be seen as a "fall back" plan or "the next best thing" if you don't get into an NPHC organization. An individual can celebrate his culture regardless of what organization he is a part of. Whatever organization the OP decides to pursue, I just hope he's done his research first.

But seriously, as someone WITH an English degree, I don't know HOW you can type like that and be cool with it.

Anyway, good luck and all that. I'd worry about getting INTO a school first and getting THAT funded before worrying about a GLO, Black or otherwise.

I chose hiphop, I love the music, the culture, all of it, but I am very proud of my Latin roots. I see hiphop as my home and my Latin roots as my view of life. I always wanted to pledge a frat but never really knew the story or how exactly it worked. When I was younger; my cousin's fiancé would take me to step shows and that was when I would think to myself "when I got to college I want to join a brotherhood like that." I currently go to a community college, but next year: because of scholarship opportunities, I plan on going to a historically black school. My girlfriend goes to one now, and when I went to visit I was there for a probate. Once again I thought to myself "I cant wait until the next year to join a frat." My girlfriend asked me can I join if im not black. I never really thought about it until now. I don’t know what to do, I mean I feel like I can relate to any one, and I see past color, so the thought of me not being black as an issue never came across my mind.

So basically can I? If so do you think I would be turning my back on my Latino roots?
Can someone please give me some feed back? & Thanks!
No...
