Right, it's called protocol.

Even if the pattern is in the organization's colors, there is a general consensus against the use of patterns.
Beyond that, floral prints, plaids, Gucci sketch, etc. are plain hideous, to me.

Really? I've seen some pretty florals patterns. KLP's flower is the morning glory and my family tree letters have a morning glory pattern on a white background on a navy blue shirt. It looks so cute!

I'm glad you think so
However, seeing those prints in the form of BGLO letters are a definite no-no, to me. For reasons beyond their being ugly.

Ok next question, I saw an ivy leaf pattern that's white with ivy leaves on it. If you put that on a pink shirt with a green background, would that be ok to give to an AKA, hypothetically speaking?

Ask the AKA you plan to give it to. Or, ask someone in her chapter if you want it to be a surprise.

Understand that if organizations in the NPC are permitted to wear their letters with any combination of colors it is because their colors may not have the level of significance to their organization as do members of the NPHC. As a member of an NPHC organization, I can say that our colors have a ritualistic, secretive meaning; therefore we are not permitted to wear our letters with any color just because we like the way it looks, or whatever the case may be.

Thank you blulady. Now it makes sense. The fact that it has a ritualistic meaning is the explanation I think a lot of people needed to understand this.
Gucci letter pattern....shudder. I'm sure there is a LV and Burberry floating around out there too....

Look like a "cultural greek"? Oh, perish the thought of celebrating a tradition of fully established, long-standing organizations much like your own. Hmmm...I'm glad you went ahead and did your thing!!

Why thank you very much. I want people to know how much love I have for my org, and that includes every aspect of it, from my chapter to my pledge class.
My bros often wonder why I know every chapter by heart, or most of the fraternity and chapter history, or stuff like that. They may think that means I'm like "cultural greek", but I just tell them this:
"I know what my letters stand for.....b*tch"

Hell, I beleive in My and Love My Fraternity! Stan, can you explain what the H she was talking about!!
In the words of OTTER, "Is Not Each Fraternity/Soroity have rights and feel that they are The Best"?
Oh, just to parphrase of course, I finally destroyed my Animal House tape from over use!
