Questions for all on this board-- what is stepping?

Stepping is a complex performance involving synchronized percussive movement, singing, speaking, chanting, and drama. Step-shows have become a primary site for expressing African American identity. Developed by African American fraternities and sororities, stepping is now practiced in many African American churches, elementary, middle, and high schools, community groups, and Latino, Asian American, and multicultural Greek-letter organizations. Dance ethnographer Jacqui Malone calls stepping "one of the most exciting dance forms to evolve in the twentieth century."
