Minnie Driver did lip-synch the songs in the movie but the song nominated, Learn to be Lonely, was written
specifically for the movie and Minnie sang that one. If you have seen the movie you would know that that song played during the credits. ALW had to write an original song for it to be nominated. None of the other songs would have applied for best original song, probably because the show debuted (did I spell that word right?) on Broadway and wasn't specifically written for the "big screen".
