the oscars

who else is watching? I am really excited about it. I doubt any one moive will sweep like LOTR:ROTK did, but would be interesting if Jamie Foxx won both categories. Has that ever happened before?

The1calledTKE 02-27-2005 10:42 PM

I like the Chris Rock Bush bashing. That was good for a laugh.

smiley21 02-27-2005 10:43 PM

this new format is awful. All of the nominees for each smaller category stand on the stage while their award is being called. Who in the world wants to stand on the stage when they are loosing? How embarassing.

They even are pratically hand delivering some of the awards. That is just odd.

Why did they change the format?

I think we have got another sweep on our hands. So far The Aviator has won EVERY award they have been nominated for.

I have to admit this whole one movie sweeping the awards thing has really GOTTA STOP!!!!!!!

I may like the movie that gets nominated but it is throughly annoying. I love ROTK but I hated that it kept sweeping last year, especially when I felt in some categories other movies were "more qualified" to win than it was.

I know that in the categories other than best actor/actress and picture they have "experts" in the categories vote but let's face it the people are still going to be biased towards movies and actors they like.

I am now feeling that sweeping the academy awards isn't something you should really be proud of. I would be happy on won hand that I won all these awards but then again on the other hand I would be thinking "did I really deserve this?" You know what I mean.

I'm not sure what I think about the new format.

But what is up with the auditorium being halfway empty?!? I have never watched the academy awards and seen the seats practically all empty. That is what the seat fillers are for. They just close uped on the balcony and it was practically empty.

Ratings, m'dear... ratings...! :D They're looking for some new fangled way or other to keep the annual lovefest running on time and not going stale.

Screw the rest of the nominees... I'm rooting for the musical director - Bill Conti, who is a graduate from my high school (North Miami Senior High (Florida), Class of 1959). :D

ms_gwyn 02-27-2005 11:36 PM

I didn't even know it was on  ....what I mean I thought it would start around 7:00 pacific.....anyway

I just saw the winner's list and I found out that Morgan Freeman won for best supporting actor...which is a good thing, but that leads me to believe that jamie fox will not winner best actor.....I person think he did a better job in collateral.... so I guess we will see.

Optimist Prime 02-27-2005 11:38 PM

I'm surprized that I [heart] Huckabees wasn't nominated. I liked their editing and visual effects.

LMAO @ Chris Rock reading for Catherine Zeta Jones hahaha

Oscar night starts promptly at 5:30 PM Pacific time to make it within the prime time schedule. Following the ceremony is the Governor's Ball banquet. (In early days, the Oscars were much like the Golden Globes, where you were served dinner first, then the awards.)

GeoffZ 02-27-2005 11:41 PM

I noticed alot of empty seats too. Nobody wanted to come to the Oscars this year? The new format with the nominees standing on stage together is supposed to save time.

No surprises yet with the acting awards. Everyone said Morgan Freeman and Cat Blanchett would win.

I was LMAO at Chris Rock's Bush/Gap joke.

I'm surprised that Beyonce could sing so well in french.

honeychile 02-27-2005 11:41 PM

Okay, they've completely lost me now.

When Before Sunset doesn't win, the rest is self-congratulatory bs.

That was hysterical!!!!!!!!

Oh the academy awards is being dedicated to my brother (he is serving overseas in Kuwait right now). Woo Hoo. I should let him know.

I think Chris Rock as the host is actually pretty good.

Honey, I feel ya with Before Sunset. I loved Before Sunrise and was so excited when they finally did the sequel. I loved the sequel.

In a totally romantic weekend, mr. honeychile & I saw Before Sunrise one night, and Before Sunset the next. This set the scene for a wonderful weekend!!

But, in all honesty, my feelings that it should have won go beyond that - the script was genius!

I know, I really just forgot....i've been in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (where they used to be held) and the Kodak Theather is across the street.

I probably could have worked at the awards if I tried really hard....no desire, too crazy down there.

It is no picnic driving around the Shrine (and now) Staples Center during the grammy's. The Academy Awards is in a worse location..traffic wise.

Back on topic.....that is just too strange to have all the nominee's on stage.

mmcat 02-28-2005 12:01 AM

they are trying to keep it tight....
beyonce got a second nominated song...hmmm.
she looks better than she did for the french song.
