If they are renting property, then their property taxes are built into their rent. If they are working there, then they automatically pay that state's income tax. The auto registration would depend on whose name the car was in. It would be licensed and insured by the parents if the title was the parents' name. Otherwise, they would have changed their driver's license address to register to vote in that area and therefore, would have had to change their car registration too. Although, aren't the majority of students at most colleges from the same state anyway? If so, most of those points would be moot.

I had roommates from Ohio and Pennsylvania who had to pay two state income taxes because they were working in Michigan and they voted by absentee ballot because they maintained residency in their home states.

I think you're nitpicking... these students have a right to vote.
