students denied voting access in Iowa
The Story County Auditor's Office illegally turned away around 100 students from a satelite voting location on the Iowa State campus...
I know what county auditor I am voting against now. http://www.iowastatedaily.com/vnews/.../41788cc51e058 Quote:

I hope
I hope the voter reg. office shares their data with the tax commissioner, and the registered students start getting tax bills for their personal property and license tax bills for their cars. Maybe even state income tax if they are working and from out-of-state.
Sure, they can register and vote where they live, but they can't then deny residence at tax time. |

You assume that none of the students don't already pay these things and I'm sure many of them do. As always, yet another generalization. |
If they are renting property, then their property taxes are built into their rent. If they are working there, then they automatically pay that state's income tax. The auto registration would depend on whose name the car was in. It would be licensed and insured by the parents if the title was the parents' name. Otherwise, they would have changed their driver's license address to register to vote in that area and therefore, would have had to change their car registration too. Although, aren't the majority of students at most colleges from the same state anyway? If so, most of those points would be moot.
I had roommates from Ohio and Pennsylvania who had to pay two state income taxes because they were working in Michigan and they voted by absentee ballot because they maintained residency in their home states. I think you're nitpicking... these students have a right to vote. Dee |

Michigan law states that the same address must be used for voter registration and driver license purposes.
I guess I assumed all states would be similar. My bad! Dee |
I think Florida is the same way as Michigan, for what it's worth.

It sounds like a mistake to me, nothing that should result in blows about the head - honestly, ease up everyone, we still have a full week of this? Shoot me in the face. Yeah, the guy f-ed up, and yeah it's his job, but it's not like he totally disenfranchised every ISU student (*insert "RC is a hawk fan" joke here*). It's recoverable. |

continue to disenfranchise voters and that students who vote are bringing disenfranchisement on themselves She just needs to be voted out by the pro-democracy citizens of Story County. Good thing my professor and tertiary advisor is running for the position. Quote:

Dude, you obviously didn't even read what I wrote - and never, ever quote a sophomore biology major to prove your point, how insipid. Obviously this woman is in the wrong, obviously these kids can still show up and vote now, obviously this is nothing to get upset about past the "this woman is a retard" aspect. I don't buy the 'systemic disenfranchisement' argument - unless these kids are too lazy to come back and cast the ballots. Fight fire with fire - show up at noon today and cast your vote. Take off the tinfoil hat and ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING TO COMBAT THE PROBLEM. |
