I felt bad for the people that cut loose and had bad experiences, couldn't handle it, or eventually just felt guilty and ended up becoming more puritanical later than they were before they had fun.
The born again virgins, soccer moms, and those that preach against any kind of fun.

Well, my theory does not restrict to only drinking/having sex. For those who cut loose in high school maybe it's doing cocaine, and for the more "puritan" maybe it's skipping a couple of classes.
