Idaho Football Player Shot and Killed

Idaho football player shot and killed

September 20, 2004

Eric McMillan, 19, a University of Idaho student who played cornerback on the football team, was shot Sunday evening at his home on Lentner Ave. in Moscow. McMillan died from his injury at 4 a.m. today at Gritman Medical Center.

Witnesses who called the police at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday told officers they saw a older white BMW driving away from the area. Police issued a description of the vehicle. The Whitman County (Wash.) sheriff's department spotted the car between Pullman and Colfax and followed it west toward Interstate 90. The high-speed chase ended on I-90 at Vantage.

Officers arrested Matthew R. Wells, II, 27 and his brother James J. Wells, 25, both of Seattle. The two are currently being held in Whitman County jail.

McMillan, who shares the jersey No. 7 with starting quarterback Michael Harrington, was the starting right cornerback for the Vandals. He was 5-foot-9 and 178 lbs. He was a redshirt freshman from Murrieta, Calif.

Spokesman Review

ETA: Two other students were killed in a motorcycle accident on campus. One at the scene and the other in the hospital in Spokane. It was not a good weekend for the U of I.
