More NEWS as we end Summer...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Living Out" playwright Lisa Loomer will rewrite Universal's Halle Berry (news) starrer "Nappily Ever After," which Patricia Cardoso will direct.

The story, based on Trisha Thomas' novel, follows a black woman's journey to self-discovery. On an impulse, the main character -- an advertising exec tired of fussing with her long and processed straight hair -- shaves it off and kicks out her commitment-phobic boyfriend. Discovering a newfound freedom, she is unprepared for how friends and co-workers react to her new hairdo and subsequent new life.

Man robs bank with rusty pitchfork

AIKEN, South Carolina (AP) -- A robber who used a rusty pitchfork to stick up a bank got away -- and so far, finding him has been like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The man, wearing sunglasses and a mask, entered Security Federal Bank Tuesday morning and threatened employees with the 4-foot-long pitchfork. The man took an undisclosed amount of money.

The robber dropped the farm tool as he ran from the bank through a wooded area to a golf course behind the bank, police said.

Bloodhounds tracked the robber to a fast food restaurant parking lot, where police say the man got into a white van driven by a woman.

No customers were in the bank during the holdup, and no one was injured.

:: Patty Jackson's 411 for the week of September 5th, 2004:

The “King of Pop” Michael Jackson made a shocking admission last week after a Dateline NBC expose revealed that another young boy was paid to keep quiet about alleged sexual abuse. Michael says he paid the young boy’s family off as well as other families because he wanted to avoid the public embarrassment of going to court. He says he made financial settlements with multiple children.   The Dateline NBC ran a story of how Michael paid a 12 year old boy’s family $2 million to keep quiet in 1993. Michael made headlines the next year when he paid another boys family 20 million dollars. Michael is currently facing child molestation charges in a new case and he is expected to stand trial early next year. In other Michael news, his longtime confident Bob Jones is writing a book about life with Michael. Earlier this year Bob was abruptly fired by Randy Jackson, Michael’s little brother. Bob has been with Michael since the early 70’s and he never signed a confidentiality agreement. Bob was hurt by the sudden firing and now he wants to tell all. Bob has been with Michael through it all including the Pepsi commercial fire, the 1994 child molestation payoff, and the marriages with Lisa Marie Presley and Debbie Rowe. Another book coming out about Michael Jackson is the one from Ray Chandler-- he’s the estranged uncle of the $20 million payoff accuser. In the book All that Glitters, The Crime and the Coverup, Chandler tells how the family was not allowed to go into the witness protection program after receiving numerous death threats from Jackson fans. He says he has facts about the case that the public will be hearing about for the first time. This book is unauthorized, unsanctioned and self published by Chandler. The family of the boy, now 24 years old, had nothing to do with this book and it will be released on September 12th.

Anita Baker is back after a ten year absence. The new album, My Everything, is out in stores now. The album features Anita singing her signature love songs and she teams up with Babyface for a duet called “Like You Used To Do.” Anita says the past few years have been difficult. Her parents died and she took care of them before their death. She says the stress of caring for her parents put a big strain on her marriage and that she and her husband, Walter Bridgeforth, almost divorced. Anita says everything is fine now with her and her husband. Anita wanted to take time to raise her two sons. Anita was abandoned by her birth mother and she wanted to make sure she was there for her children. As for touring Anita says she will do that next year.

The “Queen of Radio” Wendy Williams is back with a hot new book. The Wendy Williams Experience features Wendy at her best with “Ask Wendy,” “Baby Mama Drama,” exclusive interviews and the low down on the stars. The book is very funny and very informative. I enjoyed Wendy’s first book Wendy’s Got the Heat, but I loved this book. It was hard to put down and some parts had me laughing out loud. Readers will enjoy this book and Wendy is coming to town to talk about it. Wendy will be at Barnes and Noble on September 15th. Barnes and Noble is located at 18th and Walnut Streets in Center City. She’ll be there at 7pm to sign copies of her book.

Don’t give singer Tyreese any leftovers. Tyreese was recently dating a singer named Melinda Santiago. The two were getting close, but he had never seen her undress. Well when he finally did he got the shock of his life. She had a tattoo on her waist and when he took a closer look at the tattoo he noticed that it spelled out U-S-H-E-R. Usher! Yes, Usher’s name was right there. Apparently Melinda used to date Usher and he used to be her mentor. Needless to say the relationship with Tyreese ended right there. He was so upset he left the bedroom immediately saying he didn’t want Usher’s leftover. But was this before he got saved? :p

To those who've read the book----Do you really think it's worth bringing to the big screen? It was the one of the reading choices for my book club this summer and it didn't garner much of a reaction (neither positive nor negative) from the group.

Tiger: is the girlfriend to blame or his father's illness? i've heard that his father being in such poor health has affected his game.

Vanessa: her estranged, Rick Fox, was at the US Open last night w/his mistress. apparently he was w/her last year at the Open. he didn't get w/her for her looks (she's an underperformer compared to the current Mrs.), she just happened to make herself available:rolleyes:

Tigress Woods -- Jim Rome was riffing on dude's "cheapness and arrogance" all show. I respect Eldrick as a golfer, that's all.

AKA2D '91 09-08-2004 03:33 PM

Tiger's father has been in poor health for a few years.

I think Tiger has a cousin from his father's side who is very good playing golf. Supposedly, the cousin is BETTER than Tiger was at "that" age. What is "that" age? I dunno.

Uh, Ruben needs to take it down as notch, or two, or three. Brother man is constantly getting bigger and bigger. His health has to be in jeopardy.

Ms. Vanessa? Well VW always did know how to snap back following a crisis.

Aryan Nations founder dies at 86

(CNN) -- Richard Girnt Butler, the white supremacist who founded the racist Aryan Nations organization, has died at 86.

The announcement was made on the group's Web site and also reported in a Wednesday news release by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights group that monitors racist organizations and challenged the Aryan Nations in court.

The neo-Nazi died at his home in northern Idaho, where the group had been based before it lost its compound four years ago as a result of lawsuit filed by the law center.

Butler, also the founder of an entity called Church of Jesus Christ Christian, had long suffered from congestive heart failure and reportedly died peacefully in his sleep, the law center said.

The 20-acre "whites only" compound was the meeting place of annual Aryan Nations congresses, the center said.

"For more than three decades, Butler preached his anti-Semitic and racist ideas from his Aryan Nations compound based near Hayden Lake, Idaho," the center said in a statement.

"Members or former members of his group were convicted of numerous violent crimes across the country -- from assassination to armed robberies, bombings, counterfeits and racial assaults."

The group said Butler had been "indicted for seditious conspiracy" in 1987, but "prosecutors failed to convince an Arkansas jury that Butler and several other prominent racists had conspired to start a race war."

The Aryan Nations headquarters is now in Pennsylvania.

ETA: This is less than 100 miles from where I live. Even though this group left for Pennsylvania, another hate group from Arkansas is now in Spokane. I'd be very happy if they all closed up shop forever, instead of just going elsewhere.
